been dreading these last two 😢

Was dreading watching her reaction to this. Devastating. I had the exact same response. I too didn't see it coming and it had me in tears. The heartbreaking thing is that he cant avenge her death. He killed him not knowing what he had done. Its horrendous but by far the best tv I have seen ever. Ive never found a better tv show since 10 years ago.

Man I remember how fucking shocked I was when I watched this season finale.

Now you know why I hate this season. It was just brutal for me, and I am having a hard time starting the reaction

YouMeTheMovies

Yeah... She says its her least favorite season so far. heh. Only because of the ending though.

YouMeTheMovies

I had a pit in my stomach this whole viewing just waiting for the moment I knew was coming and wondering how she was going to take it.

My family used to get together to watch Dexter. We all cried when this happened

I feel a weird guilty pleasure watching her reaction to the finale lol, was looking forward to it but god that scene is so heart wrenching

Blood on the wedding dress in the S03 finale was actually foreshadowing the end of S04.

Anonymous

I'm surprised nobody connected those two dots.

Don't feel bad, I cry during Kitchen Nightmares!

Surprisingly the only way to heal is by watching more Dexter which is what I will do after writing this comment. This is one of 2 character deaths that made me cry and I have seen tons of TV shows. Bottom of my list, that is where s4 is.

"It's already over!!" One of the best episodes of the series. That twist came out of nowhere when watching the first time! That John Lithgow most definitely deserved his award!!

I cried and cried. There were fans who couldn't go to work the next day. Julie Benz (Rita) has never watched the finale! It's the one season I have a hard time rewatching because we know all the stupid mistakes Dexter makes and we know the outcome. But I can honestly say this is the first reactor I have actually enjoyed watching this season with (and I've watched 6 different reactors). And I can add to uplift the wife, season 5 is one of my favorite seasons!

Janet Daurity

He also won the Golden Globe as did Michael C Hall who also won The Screen Actors Guild best actor award for this season!

Janet Daurity

After you breath awhile, show the wife this clip of Michael C Hall and John Lithgow rehash season 4. Its really good! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vu5nd_09ZeM

I think he Michael C Hall was battling cancer around this time.

If Dexter dies in this upcoming season... I think, if done correctly.. the writers and showrunners... mainly Clyde Phillips, could start a whole new series called Harrison... just my opinion...

Yeah dude, I was shocked to see her reaction was stone cold to the ending of Shawshank Redemption. It was interesting to see her reaction to this finale. Seems like movies with kids/family is her soft spot. Would expect a similar reaction from the Mrs watching the movie Arrival?

Being a big fan of Julie Benz & honestly Rita, I was crushed by her death. I felt a sort of emptiness. She was the warm, comfortable part of the show for a lot of us and taking that away was a huge risk for the show but I really ended up enjoying S5 anyway which I didn't think I would. I really felt for Aster & Cody losing their dad & now their mom.. yeesh. Fun fact though, they only told Julie about her demise a couple days before shooting because they didn't want spoilers getting out. They told Lithgow going in what he was gonna do but made him promise to keep it to himself. Julie said when the producers called her in to tell her she had just gotten back from a workout and just bawled on their couch asking if there was a way she could stay. Unfortunately, as we know there wasn't & she met that demise. RIP Rita. Love to Julie Benz who did a stellar job portraying her.

Cameron Rayburn

Did you notice Dexter's speech at the end of the episode, about "it doesn't matter what i do, because i'm what's wrong" it's verbatim the exact same thing Deb said in her speech in the parking lot when she had a nervous breakdown where Lundy died.

Cameron Rayburn

I personally thought Christine Hill's story was more tragic than Rita's. I think the girl who played Christine Hill did a great job.

Cameron Rayburn

The getaway was such a good fakeout by the writers, another reactor i watched knew Rita was in danger the whole time so the fact that Rita was getting out of dodge gave them the same sense of relief to lower their guard that way when it happened it was still a surprise and unexpected even though they were suspicious and suspecting it. It occurred to me the first time i watched the series what if Trinity killed Rita the same way or Deb even as the first victim we see him do that to, because anything realistically was a possibility at that point in the series as far as i knew.

YouMeTheMovies

We did. I also like how Dexter notices the moon before listening to Rita's message where she points it out, even though she thinks he's not into that sort of stuff. Makes that last five minutes a little more tragic when you realize how connected they were really going and how much he truly loved her.

you never know what show or movie will get to ya. Game of thrones scene in season 6 got me real surprise. Avengers Endgame got me good with cheeseburgers. There are a few more. I lost my mom at a young age to cancer. Everyone brings their own personal story into their viewing experiences.

That was so brutal to watch the first time, I was in shock for quite a while. Seeing the reaction of the Mrs. brought be right back to being in that moment. I can't believe she got the strength to even come back and finish the reaction, that must have been a stellar convincing job as well. This almost feels like going through a grieving process. Just remember everybody loves coming back for your reaction, hopefully the TV trauma will turn into something better once the next seasons play out. At least season five has a character that 'shines' ;)
