I mean, Xerxes didn't die in his camapgin to conquor greece. That's why Leonidas jsut wounded him. Xerxes just lost the invasion with the last battle being what the movie ended on at Plantea. While it's horribly exagerated, the details of the battle are accurate. 300 Sparatans with a group of Acadians and Thosians held Thermopplye (the Hot Gates). On thethird day of the battle, a Greek goat herder named Ephiates betrayed them. The Arcadians and Thosians withdrew while the Spartans under Leonides held their position and died. In reality, the reason hardly any one showed up was the Olympic Games were on. The Greeks took those seriously. They also mentioned Marathon, where the tradition of running a marathon comes from. It was Xerxes Father Darious tried to do an amphibian landing at the costal village of Marathon near Athens only to have the Athenian hoplites massacre them on the beaches twenty year later. And the Xerxes here is the same Xerxes from the Old Testament in the Book of Daniel.
