That ending scene is still haunting, the impact this movie had back when found footage wasn't a thing was insane. Before social media. If the Mrs. wants some good thought provoking horror, i'd highly recommend Hereditary and Midsommar

Yeah the format of the film and the whole marketing was genius and really paved the way for viral marketing over the next decade.

Ha.. Went to see this in the theater when I was a teenager.. and I remember after the ending scene in the basement when the credits started rolling.. nobody in theater moved.. finally after like a minute went by.. some guy stood up and yelled out WTF.. whole place cracked up and started piling out.. place was packed..

As a Marylander I take some small pride in this film's existence. Growing up I've always thought of it as being part of the state's culture, right up there with crabbing and a strong dislike of the state of Virginia. Strange to think that it's 22 years old now.
