Tucker's episode notes (including name pronunciation/meaning) for our Candy Flurry episode

• Title: アメノフル
  • “Ame no Furu” written out in katakana (just syllables). Has a double meaning.
    • “Ame” could be a reading for 雨 (rain) or 飴 (hard candy). “Furu” means “to fall.”
    • So the title in Japanese means both “Rainfall” and “Candy-fall”
• Author:  たけぐし一本, Takegushi Ippon
• Artist: みたらし三大  Mitarashi Santa
  • I think these are both either noms de plume (made up) or they both decided on a similar way of stylizing their names, because they just seem too weird
  • Both of their family names are written in hiragana (just syllables, not how names are traditionally written, especially family names), while their personal names are written out in kanji and match each other thematically.
  • Author’s name, Ippon, is written as “one [counter for long, thin object],” which suggests something like “a pen,” or “a pencil.” The kanji by itself means “book.”
  • Artist’s family name “Santa,” is written as “the big three”...could this actually be three people drawing under one name?
    • Ah, was able to find that Santa’s real name is Sugiyama Yuta, so it isn’t three people, but the name definitely was a fake
• Characters
  • Minase Tsumagi  水瀬ツムギ
    • Family name Tsumagi written with characters for “water” and “rapids,” which seems to be following the rain theme of the title
    • Personal name doesn’t seem to have much significance
    • Pronunciation: Remember that the “ts” in Tsumagi is like the “ts” at the end of the English word “pots”
  • Midori Misaki 三鳥ミサキ
    • “Midori” usually means “green,” but it’s written in his name as “three birds,” which is weird. Not sure what it means, if anything.
    • Personal name doesn’t seem significant
    • Nothing really challenging, pronunciation-wise.

Things and Places:

• Recette: French word for “recipe,” but could also mean “receipt.” Name for the candy police,
  • Pronunciation: Similar to the English word “reset,” except be sure to not pronounce the “re” at the beginning like “ree.”
• Stars: The 1-3 star system is most likely based on the Michelin star system, in which additional stars are awarded a restaurant for continuous excellence over subsequent reviews.
