Hey guys,

You all probably already know about this since it seems it has been sort of a PR mess for Patreon today, but we wanted to address the issue and hear what you guys thought about it. To summarize it, starting on December 18th Patreon is going to start charging a service fee of 2.9%+ $0.35 for each individual pledge.

Right now Patreon charges us about 15% of all the pledges, and this change will mean that they'll only charge us 5%. They are trying to market this as "giving more to the creators", but it's brazenly obvious that this was a change purely designed to increase their profit. It is understandable that they may want to increase their revenue, but we think this is a really bad way to do it, particularly when a great number of people supporting creators on Patreon do so by pledging amounts of less than $5. If you consider patrons that support creators with $1 per month, this is an increase of almost 40% on what they are charged.

We first and foremost want to make sure that everyone here feels that they are getting enough for what they are being charged, since we are incredibly thankful that you chose to support us, enabling us to do all the cool stuff we want to do. So we would love to hear what you think about these upcoming changes. We are currently thinking of different ways in which we can lessen the impact of this and keep it worth your support.

I'm glad you and the other artists I'm following on here have been up front in letting us know what's going on. If you wind up having to change platforms I'll still follow your work, I follow the people on here that I do for a reason, and that reason is not Patreon

Thanks, Jamie, we hope we won't have to do anything like that, but that's definitely good to know!

Appreciate the post, but as far as I’m concerned, this is a minor change. Won’t be going anywhere.
