Evening friends! It's time for our first Exploration Missions-focused update! There's a number of different areas I could break this large piece of functionality down to: UIs, code, content, graphics, etc. The piece I'm starting with first is the UI for selecting your team and preparing for your chosen mission. Some of this is now in the game for demo purposes, and I'd like to explain what is, and more importantly what is not yet functional. So, step by step:
  • When you unlock your first Specialist loyalty mission, the 'Launch Mission' button will then appear in the office screen. In the future this may only be available during certain periods, or for a maximum number of missions per week, but for now it will be up continuously.
  • The first screen it takes you to will be Mission Selection. You will have an option of three missions to choose from, starting with available loyalty missions and then filling in with random missions. Missions do not currently exist yet, as such, so the info here is currently placeholder only.
  • Selecting any mission will take you to Team Selection. You will be able to choose any two unlocked Specialists, except on loyalty missions where the relevant Specialist will be mandatory. The game will show you your current team stats, and when two are selected, the Team Ready button will appear.
  • The button will take you to the third screen, Morph Selection. Your Specialists will be doing the heavy lifting during missions, but as you improve your impersonation skill, you will be able to unlock other race options to join in as, which will let you add on a few team stat points here and there. This screen is currently still in progress: the UI is not yet tied in to your actual impersonation skills, and the portraits do not update for your Overseer's chosen gender and race selections. I should also note that it's still up in the air how much Morphs will impact the actual story content of missions, the focus for early on at least will be for the Overseer as a Terran.

So, that said, enjoy this preview, along with a new background shot and some bug fixes! The first priority for the next update will be finishing the Morph Selection screen, and then I'll be digging into missions themselves. We haven't had any Patron-Overseer selections on our Encounter poll this week (about 2 hours left), if that remains the case I'll probably be looking at adding in some Hellfire content instead, but watch for our monthly status post this weekend for updates. I'll also note that our next public release is planned for tomorrow. So I suppose that leaves us with our patch notes, game links to follow:

v0.23.1 Change Log

Game Functions:

  • The Tension cost of tier 5 Department scenes has been reduced to zero. This is a temporary adjustment so that all scenes are available in a single playthrough without cheats, and will be restored once additional sources of increasing Tension have been added to the game.
  • Once Exploration Missions have been unlocked via Specialist relationships, the 'Launch Mission' button will now appear in the Office. This will take you to an example mission launch screen, this is for demonstration purposes only at this time. See the Patreon posting for this release for more details on what currently is and is not functional.

Scene Content:

  • None

Art Content:

  • Citizen Seduction - Private Quarters background added to Scenes and Gallery.

Codex Entries:

  • None

Bug Fixes:

  • Corrected issue in Citizen Seduction - Taste scene where a line was using the player's gender flag rather than the Citizen's.
  • Previously reported issue with buttons during random encounter reviews was due to using an old save file with a version compatibility issue. A check has been added to warn the user if they may suffer from this issue.

Known Issues:

  • TTS dialogue cannot be interrupted once begun. May have issues if triggered on multiple screens at once. TTS support is 64-bit Windows only.
  • WebGL Issues: Be warned that save game data in WebGL mode is less permanent than PC standalone. May also be more prone to memory and other issues.
