We've just hit our latest Patreon goal! Now we can do a special episode about the linguistics of gesture where you can actually see the gestures! This also means that we can film the special gesture video episode while Gretchen is visiting Lauren in Australia, which will definitely make for a much nicer-looking video for you.

Creating and editing video is a new level of complexity for a previously-audio-only podcast, so we're excited to get to work and you can expect the gesture episode in the first few months of the new year.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Sydney and Melbourne liveshows last week! It was so great to meet and chat with many of you before and after the show! If you didn't make it or want to re-listen, stay tuned for the recording early in 2019 as well.

We're also pre-recording episodes so that the show will run like normal during 2019, even as Lauren takes some parental leave from the show to have her baby. (Or, as linguists sometimes put it, to begin her own tiny longitudinal language acquisition project!)

Because of that, however, we've realized that we need to introduce a bit more predictability into the custom merch option that we offer all our patrons. Rather than have custom merch available at all times, we're going to open up custom orders for specific periods. The first custom merch request period is NOW until December 3, 2018.

Want an International Phonetic Alphabet or tree diagram scarf or tie in a very specific colour? Interested in NOT JUDGING YOUR GRAMMAR JUST ANALYSING IT or I WANT TO BE THE ENGLISH SCHWA, IT'S NEVER STRESSED on an item we haven't already put it on? Now's your chance to get it!

To order custom merch for yourself or to give as a gift, you can fill out the form here with your colour or item preferences by December 3, and we'll email you back within a day or two with a custom link to the item, so you can see a preview and place your order directly. (If there's a custom merch idea that you're interested in that's not in the form, feel free to message us using Patreon's messaging feature or at contact@lingthusiasm.com and we'll see if it's possible.)

We're always delighted to see what kinds of personal spins people put on the merch and to picture it making your life a bit more lingthusiastic! For ideas, you can see more photos of Lingthusiasm merch and people wearing their Lingthusiasm merch here
