Every time I watch this series I pick up something new. This time I noticed that when he spoke Ji-An's name on the phone in that ending scene, he didn't use the honorific form. All through the series he's been using formal language with her. Now he's just saying her name informally, which means he considers her to be essentially family. This episode is slow, but it's a careful buildup to episode 15 which is, in musical terms, the drop.
