Schiller looked somewhat helpless as he stared at Selena perched on top of the telephone pole. He asked, "Why don't you come down? Am I that frightening?"
Selena stared at the expression on his face, as if saying, "Don't you know yourself?"
Schiller could only use his umbrella to tap the telephone pole and said, "Even if you haven't read the book, you should know that climbing over the school's fence is against the rules. Why are you here?"
"I... I..." Selena stammered for a moment, then said, "I'm here to find someone."
"Find someone? Who?... Oh, Bruce, right? Then why don't you use the main entrance?"
"The main entrance?" Selena revealed an even more puzzled expression. She said, "Can I use the main entrance?"
Schiller sighed, raised his head, and said to her, "Of course, you can use the main entrance. You're neither a gang member nor a fugitive. If you're here to find a boyfriend in school, who would stop you?"
Selena stared at him warily and said, "You're not trying to deceive me to go down, are you?"
Schiller turned and walked away, saying as he walked, "If you like staying here, then stay. It's going to rain soon anyway."
After Schiller left for a few minutes, Selena cautiously peeked into the school and slowly slid down from the telephone pole. She couldn't believe that this professor was surprisingly easy to talk to.
Selena thought for a moment and felt that she might have misunderstood Schiller.
Last time, Schiller pulled them into a dream because he hadn't slept well, and it wasn't really his fault; it was the loud noises made by those agents and that person named Clark.
Selena completely forgot about her own commotion and shifted all responsibility onto the heads of the agents and Clark. Then she thought that when Schiller pulled her into the dream, he even specially invited her to play in Paradise. This indicated that he was actually quite friendly.
As Selena walked towards the school, nodding to herself, she felt her speculation was correct.
Although Selena hadn't read the book, she knew that professions like teachers and doctors were highly respected. Usually, people with higher education were more reasonable and had better temperaments than others.
Just like just now, even though she climbed over the fence and violated the school rules, Schiller didn't do anything to her. He even reminded her that it was going to rain.
Thinking about this, Selena entered the large school campus, constantly turning her head left and right, like a naive girl who had just entered the city.
The scenery here was indeed different from anywhere else she had seen in Gotham. There was a sense of aesthetic order here.
Correct, it was order. Everyone here walked on crosswalks, cars were neatly parked in parking spaces, and the only sound one could hear was the chirping of insects in the bushes. Even the blinking lights in the teaching building had a rhythmic beauty.
This was completely different from the chaotic scenes in Gotham. Although each had its own beauty, it had to be acknowledged that it was more livable here.
After wandering around for a while, Selena didn't find Bruce's shadow, but she also knew that Bruce Wayne was a public figure. As long as she asked a few people, she would definitely find him.
Selena was beautiful and had a unique temperament. If she didn't say she was a girl from the slums, many people would probably think she was a Hollywood star or a actress from a theater troupe. Almost no one would refuse her request for directions.
After asking a few people, Selena learned that these days, Bruce had been either attending classes or spending time in the library. She was sure to find him in the library.
Following the directions of others, Selena arrived at Gotham University's library. However, when she arrived at the library, she found that many people were leaving, and no one was entering the library.
Selena looked left and right and, on the library wall, saw the opening and closing times of the library.
Unfortunately, it happened to be the closing time of the library now, and everyone was leaving. Selena couldn't get in.
But the good news was that she saw Bruce's figure among the crowd. Selena took a few quick steps, planning to give Bruce a surprise. However, at this moment, she noticed another figure moving faster than her.
A girl in a dress quickly passed through the crowd, ran to Bruce's side, and even wanted to hug his arm. Bruce moved aside, avoiding her touch.
Selena's footsteps froze. She squinted her eyes, stared at the two of them, then looked around and hid behind a tree.
Seeing the two of them walking side by side, Selena's nameless anger turned into confusion. Even though she knew that Bruce wasn't someone who could grow old with, at least, they were still in a romantic relationship. Moreover, Bruce had assured her that as long as they didn't break up, he wouldn't mess around.
Now, he sneaked into the school not for studying but for a date, and he even tightly kept it from Selena, making her feel deceived.
But after hiding behind the tree and watching for a while, her angry emotions gradually turned into doubt because she noticed that Bruce seemed not very interested in this girl.
Certainly, Selena had encountered similar situations several times before. Even when she was holding Bruce's arm, there would be women approaching to show interest. Bruce usually handled it well without Selena needing to speak up, so Selena wasn't worried.
However, what was strange was the attitude of this unfamiliar girl. In the past, most of the women who tangled with Bruce were socialites, engaging with him not because they genuinely liked him but for fame and fortune.
In such social situations, they wouldn't behave too excessively. Following a set procedure, if Bruce remained unresponsive, they would simply leave with a smile, seeking their next target. After all, social time was precious, and there was no need to waste it on someone unresponsive.
But this girl across from her acted strangely. Even when Bruce ignored her, she continued to cling to him persistently. Moreover, in broad daylight, many onlookers were casting curious glances, and discussions had reached Selena's ears.
"That Miss Goth has no shame! She's making us lose face! Doesn't she realize that no lady from a respectable family would keep bothering with a scoundrel like Bruce Wayne?" one girl said to her companion.
Another girl looked around and whispered, "I heard she wanted to climb into Bruce's bed but got rejected. I heard it from Bruce's roommate, absolutely correct..."
"Did you hear? It seems something happened to the Goth family; they urgently need money. Otherwise, why would their lady behave so shamelessly?"
"Although Bruce is a playboy, he has clearly rejected her. Why is this Tracey still clinging to him?"
Rumors reached Selena's ears in fragments, causing her to furrow her brows. She instinctively felt that there was more to this than Miss Goth simply being interested in Bruce.
Selena's eyes shifted. Now, she was in no rush. Having spent so much time with Bruce, or rather Batman, Selena was well aware that he treated the majority of women as temporary companions.
Even in these fleeting encounters, Bruce was discerning. Being beautiful was just the basics; it was even better if they were knowledgeable and had a unique charisma that attracted people. Otherwise, trying to engage in a fleeting encounter with Bruce Wayne was probably out of the question.
Although the distance was far, Selena was sure that this Miss Goth, despite her appearance being considered delicate with a slightly round face carrying a hint of baby fat, large eyes, and long eyelashes, was not an extraordinary beauty. She definitely did not fall within Bruce's criteria for a partner.
Convinced that Bruce was safe on his end, Selena directed her focus to another target – the Goth family.
Selena thought, if the Goth family is facing financial difficulties, they should find their own solution. Why resort to snatching someone else's boyfriend?
Selena wasn't exactly magnanimous; she held grudges quite well. The state of her relationship with Bruce was their own business, but deliberately sending a third party was a bit too much, wasn't it?
With this mindset, Selena didn't even want to look for Bruce anymore. Her mind was set on giving the Goth family a taste of their own medicine.
As the renowned thief in Gotham, Selena naturally knew how to retaliate against the Goth family.
The next morning, the weather in Gotham surprisingly improved a bit. Although it remained overcast, the wind had stopped. The newspaper boy's bicycle bell rang from afar. With gloved hands, he vigorously rang the bell on the mailbox, then swiftly departed.
Mrs. Goth emerged from the Manor, one hand holding her scarf, and the other pushing open the door. She opened the mailbox and retrieved the subscribed newspaper.
However, when she opened the mailbox, her hand touched another piece of mail. Mrs. Goth revealed a puzzled expression, reached in again, and pulled out the envelope.
It was a scented envelope sealed with a peculiar mark. Mrs. Goth squinted, took a closer look, trying to discern which family's emblem it belonged to. To her surprise, it wasn't a pattern belonging to any Goth family but rather looked like a... cat's head?
Mrs. Goth pinched the envelope and found it wasn't thick. There should only be a single sheet of paper inside, nothing dangerous. So, holding the envelope, she returned to the Gotham Manor, found a letter opener, and opened the letter.
Pulling out the paper, Mrs. Goth discovered that it was written in cursive English. The contents were concise, lacking the lengthy greetings and circumlocution. It read:
"Hello, I am a thief, and you should have heard my name because I have visited every Manor in the Manor district."
"Tonight, I will pay a visit to your home, and I sincerely hope that there will be something I desire in your Manor."
"Catwoman, Leave."
