This weekend we are going to learn how to play Under My Thumb on the ukulele by the Rolling Stones. The Rolling Stones are one of my favorite bands to both teach and play, especially once they evolved passed the early stages of playing so many covers and really found their own voice and started writing their own classic songs. I will teach this one with some barre chords because I think that is actually the easiest way to play it but I know some of my fellow ukulele players either can't play barre chords, of they hurt their hands or they just don't like them so I will also show you how to use some of the open shapes in this song as well. The song has only three parts, the Intro, Verse and the Chorus, the intro has a really cool vibraphone riff that we tabbed out so you can play that part on the ukulele, too. The Rolling Stones are just really cool and a lot of fun to play on the ukulele and this song is a great example of that!

Patreons we get the tab will have a bonus, the entire solo is tabbed out in two versions, both a low version with the low G that sounds great and a high G version as well. The lowest note is the B note, so because of that you can really get a version with the high G unless you go up the fretboard. Lucky for us the highest note is only an F# so it was still doable, but I wanted to tab them both out so if you have a low G you can you can rock it out down there, too!

Will Improve

  • Tricky words to match with chords
  • Barre chords
  • Riffing in A
  • Soloing in A
  • The B chord
  • The E chord

Very cool 😎 Tyler!! This is one of my fav Rolling Stones songs, so it'll be a great learning your version. A little personal history. The Stones were the first "rock" group that I ever saw play live at the Ottawa auditorium, now long gone. It was one of the stops on their first North American tour, and the Ottawa show was April 24, 1965!! Yes, that's right, 58 years ago, when I was a young lad of 13 years. I had wanted to go months before to see the Beatles in Montreal but my parents wouldn't let me. My older brother of 17 promised my parents that he'd look after me for the Stones show in Ottawa, where we lived at the time. Of course, he ditched me right away for a girl he was meeting there 😄 I didn't care because I was in heaven anyway amongst approx 3500 other people who had come to see THE Stones. I had saved up the money from my paper route to see them, a whopping $2.50 which was a big deal in those days. A far cry though from what I hear it will cost to go and see them on their upcoming 2024 tour. All that to say that it's a treat to learn to play any Stones song and I look forward to this one. Thanks for putting the energy into this one, my friend. Many BlesSings 🙌🏼
