In my opinion there are two first rockstars for the electric guitar, this is even before the solid body was a thing, rocking out the semi-hollow body, and they were T-Bone Walker on the blues circuit and Charlie Christian on the jazz circuit. This tutorial pays tribute to the great showman, T-Bone Walker and his amazing guitar playing and showmenship. We are doing the song Stormy Monday, which was actually written by the great T-Bone Walker. Since then it has gone on to become a blues standard, with covers by the Allman Brothers, Albert King, BB King, Gary Moore, Cream and many many more, but T-Bone wrote it so we are doing it in his style. Becuase the song is a 12 bar blues it would be pretty easy to just to teach you the chord progression and let you sing it, but to take it to the next level I wanted to break down the melody so we are doing a chord melody version so you can dig into the melody of the first verse as well to see the master class of mixing major and minor scales.

Will Improve

  • Blues standard knowledge
  • Blues outside the standard 12 bar
  • Chromatic chord movement
  • Melody with both major and minor scales

Looking forward to groovin' on this one with you, my friend. I've been listening to T-Bone for many years. This was a fabulous concert he did with BB King back in 1967. https://youtu.be/hTktjT59uqY?feature=shared
