Today we are going to learn how to play "Easy" by The Commodores, Lionel Richie's first band where he rose to fame, a lot of people actually think this is a Lionel Richie tune, but this was before he went solo. The song has a very cool piano groove with a super funky bass line going on underneath, so at its surface it is not an easy song, but, it is called Easy, so we need to do an easy beginner tutorial and that is exactly what we did. Easy hit number 1 on the hot soul billboard charts and number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as well, the song was released on The Commodores 5th studio album with the Motown record label out of Detroit. At this time in the 70s Motown was turning out the hits and crushing it. Because this song is so much fun to play I wanted to make this tutorial accesible for all levels. The song is in the key of Ab and we did an easy version in the key of G, if you want the easy version to match the record all you have to do is put a capo on the first fret and the easy version will be in the key of Ab. The easy version is broken down in a strummer version but I will also show you how to play the fingerpicking part so you can groove it out like the piano version. After that I am going teach you how to play the version the same as the studio recording. With the studio version I will not only walk you through the piano groove but I will also show you some of those really cool licks and fills that are happening on both the piano and the bass, both transcribed to the ukulele of course.
