For today's lesson we are doing a continuation of our #SongWritingChallenge are talking about how to write, or more accurately articulated, compose a riff on the ukulele. To kick the lesson off I will show you the basic progression we are using, it is C G Am F, and then we will review the two ukulele scale shapes, C ,major pentatonic scale,There are many different sounding riffs, they can be a serious of power chords, they can be a weaving connecting of chord tones, double stops, they can be call and response or the can be the Three One rule, they can have drone tones, they can take advantage of the high G, they can even leave the scale and use arpeggios from the borrowed chords. In this lesson I will show you three different techniques on how to write a riff, explaining the most important approach with each technique, so you leave feeling confident with each one and how to apply these techniques in literally any different key.
