Today we are learning how to play "Layla - Unplugged" by Eric Clapton. We have done as strummer version of this song in the past if you are interested in learning it, the link is here.  One of the most interesting aspects of this song is that it started out as a really fast wild rock song, not even blues, just straight up rock and roll when it was released with the band "Derek and the Dominoes" in 1971. One of the most interesting things about that is when he is playing it live 21 years later, and he is playing this acoustic riff, one of the things he says before he starts playing is "See if you can spot this one" and the whole crowd goes crazy, but I positive none of them knew what song it was!

That got me thinking, can you name any other band that covered their own song, and changed it to the level that Clapton did with Layla? I love chord melody ukulele and the chord melody style with Layla and Clapton worked great, i am excited to teach it you. The song has the iconic intro and we will break it down from there it plays C C A C into a C#m for the key change for the verse. Half way through the verse it feels like it shifts from the C#m to E, splitting hairs a little bit there as most people wouldn't say it is a key change as they are relative minors and majors, but it you can feel the minor vibe change to major vibe. Then it goes back to the chorus. The coda is also in the key of Dm and feels like an extension of the chorus. I guess the only thing left to teach would be to teach the solo! Which is totally one of my favorites of all time. #TenThumbs #Ukulele #ChordMelody #SoloUkulele #Unplugged Layla Unplugged - Eric Clapton - Chord Melody - Fingerstyle - Solo Ukulele Tutorial with tabs

I named my only daughter, Layla, and every time she went to the pediatrician he would sing this song to her… he said it was her song! Thanks for this Tyler!
