New Baritone first Wednesday of the month
Today we are going to learn how to play Killing Me Softly composed by Charles Fox and made a number 1 hit Roberta Flack and in 1996 it was introduced to a full new generation and genre when the Fugees covered it and put the flair on it that only they can do.
Now, the pace of this tutorial is slow but that is intentional. The idea is that we learn the melody, then I walk you through how to harmonize it, or how to use chords to support the melody. The first chorus is sparse and easy to do this and in the second we focus on how to fill up the empty space. Thumb strums, fingerpicking, chord extensions, accidentals, I will walk you through every single little detail that you need to turn a melody into a chord melody so not only will you be able to play Killing Me Softly in the chord melody - fingerstyle style - solo ukulele style but you will also be able to use this skill set to take a melody that you are familiar with and harmonize it, which means you can arrange and make your OWN chord melodies!
