Last Friday (March 22nd, 2022) Taylor Hawkins was found dead in his hotel room in Bogotá before the Foo Fighters were scheduled to play en la ciudad 2500 mas cerca a las a estrellas, Bogotá. There has been some negative press about him since his passing, about his drug abuse specifically, but I am not here to talk bad about the dead, just the opposite, I want to celebrate the wonderful music that he shared with us (not just with the Foo Fighters, but also with Alanis Morissette) and we are getting it started with "My Hero" by the Foo Fighters.

These rock songs written by Dave can be a little tricky to transpose to the Ukulele but we are going to do our best. The intro riff was the hardest part but I came up with something that works well and is fun to play. For the verse I used the E5 chord and the C#m, but you could use the C#5 if you wanted to, because that is in fact what they are playing on the record. There is a riff that plays throughout the verse that we broke down as well if you want to play that and then lastly for the chorus it moves around through some octaves, that might take a little bit of time to get the hang of, but once you do they sound great and really make the chorus come alive and pop. Enjoy playing this classic song!

Will improve

  • Open power chords - E5 and A5
  • Moveable power chord shape - C#5
  • Using octaves for rhythm
  • Muting strings
  • 1/2 step bends
  • Riffs
  • Double stops
  • Changing chords on different beats

What a beautiful way to say thanks to Taylor. I used to play this one with E played as 4447 and C#m as 6444, which is pretty simple if you bar the fourth fret. Thank you Tyler!!

Super impressed with your skill to break it down. Would love a video of you playing it top to bottom with any Tyler licks you could put in - just to listen to at home! :D Until then, I’ll have to learn it :)
