How to use today's lesson

  • Each section of the solo has its own looped mini MP3.
  • First thing is first, practice each section and start to get familiar with the ideas, the concepts. and start to develop muscle memory.
  • Download all the MP3s attached to this lesson, available to all Patreons
  • Download the tabs
  • Practice each the sections individually, then download the loops and practice the section  to the looped music
  • The first MP3 is the 2 bar intro
  • The 2nd is a 4 bar loop that you will use to practice measures 1-4 and 5-8
  • The 3rd is for measures 9-12
  • The 4th is the last four measures, which really just have melody over bars 13 and 14
  • Once you can play all of those loops download the full backing track and try and play it on loop
  • The lesson also includes the harmony so you can play it with a friend as well

About Charlie

For today's tutorial we are going to get super jazzy and pay tribute, to not only one of the greatest jazz guitarist ever to live, but one of the greatest guitar players ever to live. Sadly, Charlie passed at the young age of just 25 due to complications with tuberculosis. Charlie wasn't the first person to ever play electric guitar, he wasn't the first person to ever play in a jazz band, but he did as much as anyone else to push the instrument and this new style of playing to the forefront of pop culture. He was Benny Goodman's favorite guitar player and played with Benny until he could play any more guitar.

Will Improve

  • Using the Diminished 7 as a passing chord
  • Cool shapes up the fretboard
  • The use of accidentals
  • Jazz style soloing with no bends or vibrato
  • Targeting chord tones
  • Staccato strumming
  • Fast lead lines
