The Wind Cries Mary SOLO - Jimi Hendrix (Patreon)

Today we are going to learn how to play the solo to Jimi's hit The Wind Cries Mary. I believe this to be his most soulful solo, full of beautiful R&B sounding double stops followed by a nice pentatonic motif with a slight variance each time around. After 6 measures of this it mixes it up with two quick key changes, first up a whole step to G where it does the same motif we have been doing up a whole step and then down a half step to E where it does a blistering C# blues lick before going back to F and finishing on the motif modified one more time before resolving on the .... A? The solo finishes on the major 3rd!
The the majority of the riffs are coming from the F Major/D Minor pentatonic scale so we are going to be reviewing shapes 4 - 5 - 1 - 2 on the ukulele and in that order because shapes 4 stars right at the nut. If you like these licks feel free to pull them out and use this type of phrasing in your own improvising!
