Today we are doing a chord melody version of one of Bob Marley's most classic and iconic songs "Redemption Song" in the chord melody style. Because of syncopation there are times when the melody and the song are a little tricky to get the exact timing down, but that is what the tabs are for. On the screen we have all the tabs, for the chords as well as the melody and lyrics so you can see exactly how it all comes together. The key to getting it down is just taking it slow and playing it note fore note, bar for bare, measure for measure and you will master the song as quickly as possible. For some people that will be an afternoon, some people a week, some people more, just make sure that you are consistent and you keep working on it until you've learned the whole song. I see a lot of people work at it for a day or two and get most of the song but move on and don't take the day or two more that they need to really master the song, you can do it, just stick with it!

Wow, this is much gnarlier than I thought it would be. I will have to practice this more than just one the afternoon ;-) I got the intro down quickly, but the rest of the song is going to be a timing exercise for me. I tend to have a hard time getting the strumming and picking to sounds nice together... I know more practice. It would be helpful to have you play through the whole song - if you have the time.

Hi John! I am working on a play-along. I have been working very hard at the drums, bass, piano all year and my recording and producing skills to put together straight to the point covers and play-alongs of our chord melody stuff. I had intended to do this in February but learning three instruments and all the production behind it has been harder than anticipated but it is coming down the pipeline! It does take a lot of work with the timing, take it slow, literally beat for beat and you'll get there. Make a simple goal like 4 measures a day or even 2 and you'll get the verse in a week then the chorus in another, but you'll have it done perfectly so you can play it in time, slow and steady wins the race here!

So Day 2 is like 100 times better. It is amazing how if you take it step by step and it really comes together. No, I’m not ready to play this without the sheet directly in front of me or no I have not brought out the metronome (which I need to) - but I’m really having fun with this song. I look forward to being able to play this at the campfire 🔥 thank you Tyler!
