Today we are going to learn how to play Taylor by Jack Johnson. An easy beginner song with an upper intermediate 8 bar intro riff that is actually probably closer to a solo than a riff, so no matter what your level you have something to learn and have fun with, whether you just want to sing and play the song or you want to shred the intro solo for your friends.

The entire song revolves around a simply C G Am F two chord progression as each chord lasts for 2 beats a piece. Jack is playing with a heavy palm muting and his vocal phrasing is rotating between 16th and 8th note phrasing. You can play with the palm muting or without, depending on your level and preference, it is really up to you.

The coda has 4 bars of a different progression, C Dsus4 Fadd9 G that plays through twice, each chord lasting 2 beats, because why not? One of the things I love about Jack's song writing is how unpredictable they are. There are "radio formulas" and certain rules and certain ways people construct a song with expectations that they will make it to the radio... but Jack breaks them all! He is the laid back I love everything life is beautiful Hawaiian surfer acoustic happy version of Frank Zappa hahaha.
