Day 2 is here! We are going to take a melody and use the information provided by the implied chords above the melody and use that information to turn the melody into a chord melody. With this information you will be able to turn a melody into a chord melody too, and if you can read sheet music you can turn any melody into a chord melody!
The process is something called "harmonization" and what it is is taking the melody, knowing what chords are played over that melody, and melding them together. When you strum and sing a song you strum the chords, the harmony, and you sing the melody, the idea is that by knowing both how to play the melody, and the chords that you would strum if you were to sing it, you are able to put the two together. This process starts with understanding the melody, feeling comfortable and confident with it, and looking at the chords above the melody, and playing them together. To put them together we are using the thumb strum from yesterday, you can already see how valuable of a tool it is! That is what enables your ear to hear the highest note. You will also notice when the melody is on the E string, we use our thumb to strum the first three strings, and when it is on the A string, we strum all four.
There are a couple of other things going on, one measure has two chords, one measure plays the 7 chord, and one measure plays a chord that uses non-chord tones, all of these ideas are explained in more detail on the free printable PDF file
