The world is going through a unique time right now to say the least. I have received a lot of emails, comments, messages in Patreon and notes on Instagram from people thanking for me for helping them improve their ukulele skills during this time, and helping them get through this difficult time.

I would like to say I am extremely humbled by the fact that I have helped out even a single person. When I started this project I knew it was going to empower people, because learning ukulele (as well as guitar, the little piano I know, music production, anything at all associated with music to be honest) has been extremely empowering for me, as well as stress relieving, motivating, providing a sense of accomplishment, challenging and thought provoking. It makes me feel like I accomplish something whenever I learn a new song. The mental exercise feels great, it can be both an outlet and discipline in following instructions by learning other peoples music, as well as total freedom and creativity via song writing. Knowing how all those things have impacted me positively I knew that other people where going to have a similar experience when learning as well. That is the principal reason why I started this project. I created Tenthumbs long before Patreon existed, it took a year to make the first dollar and the first paycheck was 36 dollars and 41 cents haha, it has really always been about empowering people through music, as I believe it has saved my life in more way than one.

I say all this not to brag or boost, but coming from a place of true humility. I am so grateful, humbled, and honored to be able to help people out by sharing something I love. I have been moved to tears many times by the letters and messages I receive. I am not a very crying type of person either, unless I watch movies on a plane, does that happen to anyone else? The only time I cry watching movies is when I am on a plane and I don't know why. The altitude? I have heard about this happening to other people. I watched Coco... I don't think I realized how hard I was crying because I had my headphones on which cancel a lot of the noise.. until the old lady next to me passed me some tissue.

So this post is meant to be a shout out and a thank you to anyone who has taken the time to share their personal experience with me. I am going to make a video titled "Battling Covid 19 with.... Ukulele?!?" to try and encourage more people to pick a Ukulele up and I would love for YOU to be part of it. Ultimate the video is meant to target people who are struggling right now and are looking for something positive in their lives and to show them that the Ukulele can be that positive force, the Ukulele can be that thing that cheers them up, distracts them from the hard times and gives them something to look forward to.

So, how can you participate? Two ways.

1. Share your testimony below, let us know how the Ukulele (and Tenthumbs if you want, but it isn't necessary) has helped you out in these times. I will choose a handful of these stories and I will be reading them in the video. Your personal anecdotes might help anyone on the fence about learning to take the plunge, it will also let other people know how empowering and helpful music is and how if you put the work into it anyone can take to play the Ukulele!

2. If the Ukulele has helped you out during Covid, or any hard times, send me an email to tenthumbsproductions@gmail.com with the subject titled - Empowered through Ukulele and attach a photo with you with your Ukulele and I will put it in the video! You can see yourself at the end of a 10 thumbs video!!! Hopefully that is something you are excited about, if you are camera shy feel free to slap on a mask, it doesn't really matter.

Alright, so let's share some stories!

I've been in strumming/song groups for a while but me and my two uke buddies Lyn and Cindy became more interested in classical stuff, using tabs. Groups being cancelled, lockdown led us to follow this intensively. They buy books but I've been following Tyler and another Patreon guy who specialises in this but now I come to think of it I learned Bella Ciao from Tyler first, followed by a lot more entertaining technical stuff and tunes. So I'm actually following two Patron tutors for different material. Im very pleased to be doing so, it's worth paying something, it's excellent value, productive, as well as being good to support real musicians when the music industry seems so rubbish and unprofitable. I could never remember the chords for any of the hundreds of strum tunes but I can actually remember stuff I've learned during lockdown which gives a great sense of satisfaction and achievement. I now have a repertoire of at least half a dozen tricky numbers for when open mikes come back ho ho. Cheers Tyler!

I am lost in a world of fun and pleasure when I play. But sometimes picking up my uke is hard, when I am wallowing in dispair. I try to force myself to play an easy song. Singing along when playing helps. I rather try and be happy. It's hard. Today it's A minor pentatonic scales. Yay!
