Today we are going to learn how to play the Mixolydian Mode. A mode is type of scale, it is a way of looking at a scale from a different angle. The major scale is the following intervals 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8, the 8 being the octave. The Mixolydian mode is 1 2 3 4 5 6 b7 8. You can see the only difference is that the 7th interval is the flat 7th. This mode is tailor made to fit over a 7 chord. For example soloing over the C7 the C Mixolydian is perfect. It is great for blues music, rock'n'roll music, and even pop, pop with an edge.

We will walk you through all 5 shapes of the Mixolydian and the 5 chord shapes, each shape has a chord that is associated with it. We will walk you through the each shape, the corresponding chord that matches it, and after we will create a lick with each one and we will solo over a vamp. A vamp is one chord playing in static fashion. Which means they aren't chord progressions, just one chord. So for example in shape 1 we are going to be looking at with the D7 and we are going play a lick of the D7 so you can see how they combine. Each lick will have a vamp that you can practice with. Each lick will have its own backing track that you can play over to make it a lot easier.

Tylor, thank you for the lessons! Incredible succession of new courses. My English is not too bad, but I don't understand your intro completely: "Grab your ukulele, grab your brain and attention ... ?" Please write it out for me! Thanks and stay well! Tenne from Germany

Cheers! I say "attention span" it refers to the duration of someones ability to listen and pay attention to a teacher. It is a little joke asking people to focus. Greetings Tenne and danke für die Unterstützung!
