Today we are going to learn how to play Purple Haze by Jimi Hendrix, epic riff and all! This song has a lot of cool things going on. A b5th in the intro, a E7#9, the classic Jimi Hendrix chord, rarely played on the Ukulele, full of dissonance and power, little riffs and fills all over, octaves, another staple of Jimi Hendrix playing (that he probably picked up from Wes Montgomery) all kinds of cool things to learn in this song. It even goes full blues Mixolydian when it introduces the D and the D5 chord, oh, and there are power chords. How could you not love playing this classic tune?
It is fairly common that people attribute Purple Haze being inspired by LSD, but Jimi Hendrix has always maintained that it is a love song. If you really want to make it sound even more like Jimi Hendrix run your Ukulele through some fuzz or overdrive.
