My friends, it is time to take a look at the world of mixing chords with scales. This is just meant to be a way to get your toes wet to this idea without overwhelming you, because the sky is the limit. It not only works great with these open shapes but with barre chords as well and practicing these ideas will also help your ability to play chord melodies.

If you listen to the song Little Wing by Jimi Hendrix you will get a strong sense of the power of this style of music.

Combining Scales and Chords for Solos and Rhythms - Ukulele Tutorial with Tabs

New Ukulele Tutorials every Wednesday and Saturday Today we are doing a rhythm and solo exercise. We are looking at how chords and scales over lap. By understanding where the underlying pentatonic shape that surrounds the chord you are playing is located, how you can mix them to create interesting rhythm and solo ideas. These ideas would be the foundation for someone like Jimi Hendrix to contract a song like little wing, or classic rhythm guitar for R&B and Motown groups would use these to add groove, color, and variety to their chords when playing rhythm. It can also be used as a way to work through a solo and get your melody to stick to the chord progression a little better. Super far behind on your videos man but been diving hardcore into music theory these past couple months. Loved this lesson and having a ton of fun just goofing around with fills now. How do you make it so simple?

Repetition, camping, not being that interested in going out all night on Friday and Saturday all help haha.
