So I've known for a while that I wanted to do a horror comic this month. There's a lot of different projects I want to work on, but I like to be fitting to the theme of the month, and October is a horror month in my mind. I definitely have a fair number of horror stories I could play with, and I've had one ongoing question of whether I want to at some point adapt all of the 'Stab Lake' series I did into comic form.

If I was going to do Stab Lake, I'd want it to be in SDXL and a 70s/80s horror film style. SDXL models are to the point that the compositionality is much better than 1.5, and they keep getting better at realism, but my problem with a comic in a realistic style is that I feel like the human eye notices the many changes (clothing, hair, etc.) that are pretty much unavoidable with AI sequences way way more with realism than with anime.

When I saw the first image indicated here, I felt pretty happy with the look of it. I feel like it's pretty distinct from the look of my other series, and it captures a certain 'retro' feel that I find quite nice, even if it's not the '70s horror movie' retro feel I would do if I could get two frames in a row that had any consistency in a realism model.

So the plan I'm playing with right now is to not try to pretend like I'm doing all of Stab Lake in the short term. But I am going to try to specifically do "Homecoming TG" in comic form at the end of this month, and this will be my first SDXL comic.

I don't want to guarantee it yet since if I just cannot execute certain shots I might have to change plans, but I feel pretty decent about the plan right now.

I do want to do a 'realism' style comic at some point, but I think that might have to be after something closer to Dalle-E 3 becomes publicly available. Newer models are improving compositionality, but then there's always a lag until the better compositionality gets publicly available and tuned to the styles that are actually fun to play with for me.

Love the first image. Gives me a great "carrie/slasher" feel. Plus imagine if a Jason movie was made by an anime studio in the late 70's. Would have been amazing
