Devlog - 20th November - Good News (Patreon)

Hi,

I have some good news today. Yesterday I did the "Big Bang" and upgraded my OSX from 12.7 to 15.1 Sequoia. I was quite relieved when my machine resurfaced after half an hour of updating.

Then I updated Renpy from 7.x to 8.3, installed git and imported the V2.00 baseline source code, updated DAZ, updated Python to 3.x, update VSCode and updated Blender. Any number of things could have gone horribly wrong in that...

Afterwards I did a few quick tests

• OSX running without major issues (some new paranoid access checks...)

• DAZ started up, test render -> SUCCESS

• Blender upgraded, test render -> SUCCESS

• SJX started up in Renpy 8.x -> about 120 Errors

That being said, almost all errors were minor syntax issues related to dicts / keys. I adapted all errors today, which was done in less than two hours (minor syntax edits only...). I also practiced with git while doing that

After that SJX started up! I ran around the ship for a while, spent one night, talked to some crew members -> SUCCESS (see screenshot)

With the migration going better than I thought it would, I might adjust my plans a little. If then next two or three days I do not encounter big issues, I will proceed to finish and release the Drengar Conspiracy in 2.10 (release mid January) with the current architecture and postpone the break for 2 months.

I will introduce some tech changes (sound channel multiplexing, fancy explosions, dynamic content addition code part I) in that release but also all the content (Khelara Quest, Moira Quest II, Pet and Racing System completion). That allows me also to judge the stability of the new basline.

Then I'll take 3 months break while I overhaul the architecture for SJX II (including a big change: an architecture approach for save game compatibility that might work) 

So stay tuned, around 25th I can flip the switch either way (continue and complete SJX I or do a longer break right away)!

TLDR: On 25th I'll announce whether 2.10 continues seamlessly or whether there needs to be a 3 month break before the end of SJX I.
