Sorry all other shows I watch.....you didn't stand a chance.

To be fair, this could probably be a contender for my favorite TV moment of the year. I knew the Bates Motel Series Finale was going to fuck me up but this was really on another level entirely. The way that the ended the series was such a beautiful tragedy and it made me want to watch the show from start to finish all over again.

Max and Freddie were absolutely stellar in this final scene that was so layered, you couldn't help but get emotional watching it. We have Dylan walking in and seeing his mom's dead body for the first time propped up at the table "ready for dinner". Throughout the few moments it took Dylan to turn the corner and have it all sink in; I was feeling sick. My heart was racing and I was ill.

And then we get into the final confrontation which was so heartbreaking. Earlier in the episode, "Mother" leaves Norman and we spend the rest of the episode seeing Norman try to claw right back into his delusions. He really thought he could go back to how he was living and that just broke my heart.

But the worst part of this whole scene for me was Dylan. All Dylan ever wanted was a family and granted he did achieve that with Emma. But then we have the family he yearned for so long. I love that at the end of the day, Dylan did get closure (no matter how many months he's going to have to spend in therapy) and that chapter is finally closed for him.

It doesn't make the scene any easier to watch though. Norman has finally realized what he's become and this finale scene is him asking for mercy. When he forces Dylan to kill him in self defense, I don't know how to react. On one hand I'm so happy he is out of his misery but I can't really deny that watching Dylan murder his brother was gut-wrenching.

This scene worked on so many levels and really brought the entire series to a beautifully heartbreaking close. Freddie Highmore may never get the recognition he deserves for this role but in my opinion, he was impeccable as Norman Bates and this is just one of many, many scenes that prove that.
