It's interesting that Sesska said she expected the end of the movie would have Bastian wishing his mother back, so she could at least live on in Fantasia, if not the real world. I've never heard anyone even speculate about that possibility before, but once she said it, I realized it made perfect sense. Now I kind of wish the movie had gone that route. (Of course, in order to set it up properly, they would've provided a couple brief flashbacks at the start of the movie, so seeing the actress at the end would resonate with the audience.)

The film only covers the first half of the book, and that's the kind of thing the second half goes into: what happens when a little kid suddenly has the power to wish for anything?
