As someone who's read the books, the big interesting thing here is that they held off on revealing Ciri's father was the Nilfgaard Emperor until the very end of the story. Which wasn't really the best move, since it meant there wasn't any time to actually do anything with the twist, and it might as well not exist at all. But the show couldn't do that since we'd recognize the actor (similar to how Game of Thrones was forced to reveal Barristan Selmy right away rather than rely on how Dany didn't know what he looked like, like the books), so they presumably are actually building to something with it, since it's not like they've ever been particularly beholden to the books' story anyway.
