Thanks for a great reaction. This story wasn't one of my favourites but you always manage to see stuff I overlook so I can certainly see what makes it a good story. Of course K-9 has a wonderful intro in this story. He really took off as a companion and as a kid I used to have a K-9 toy. It had a pull chain on the front, which, when pulled, made it say random lines from Doctor Who. Wish I knew what happened to it! The monster looked a little silly I thought, although I love the concept. As per almost usual, a slow moving one. Funny thing about the slow moving villains, is that their victims are often slow moving too! See you next time!

Speaking of being memorable, the scene where the Doctor meets that black lump thing with the claw, then disolves leaving nothing but his hair, is my first memory of Doctor Who... and quite possibly my first clear memory of anything at all. I was three when this was first broadcast. You'd think if anything I'd remember something about K9 or maybe that big prawn Muppet thing rather than that weird scene, but there you go...

"A sort of clicking towards oblivion. How long K-9?" "Insufficient data." "Yeah you never fucking know the answer when it's important."

It was late in the process when the production team decided to add K9 as part of the show, beyond this story. So much so that it was too late to work him in to the next story and some scenes were quickly added at the top to explain his absence. The next two stories have long been my favorites, ones I easily rewatch every few months even.

This is one of my favorites. Yes, a lot of it is K-9 who is just a treasure. But I do like the pacing as well. I can forgive a lot but boredom is always an issue for me. I've been actually doing a rewatch of Classic Who, and when I caught up with you, I decided to go along with your timing and watch it with you. It's been fun. Great reaction, as always!
