And people say Andor was the first time Star Wars acknowledged sex. Jar Jar absolutely got some here.

I’m not opposed to this story arc being more lighthearted in tone, particularly after the last four arcs were as serious and/or dark as they were. Likewise, I love that Mace Windu gets more focus in this two-parter. I didn’t need the Jar Jar Binks focus, however. Rewatching this two-parter, I think it was halfway through and I said, “Goddman it. Knew I should have stocked up on beer before I watched this.” Probably the biggest surprise of this is the discovery of Jar Jar’s girlfriend, which has led to the sadly too relatable joke in the fandom, which is “That moment when you realize that Jar Jar Binks has a girlfriend, and you don’t.” The first time I saw it, once I picked my jaw off the floor, I felt so depressed. I can easily put myself in Mace’s shoes when Jar Jar claims that Mace is his servant. I like to joke that Mace’s thought process in response to that is, “I will NEVER forgive your ass for this shit! This is some fucked up repugnant shit!” Now, as to highlights of these episodes. First, the response to Jar Jar being specifically asked for the mission, particularly how even Palpatine’s puzzled beyond belief by the request. When Obi-Wan asks why they asked for Jar Jar, I imagine Palpatine thinking to himself, “I honestly have absolutely no idea. I’m just as much in the dark about this as I keep all of you imbeciles in the dark about all my fuckery.” And your own reaction to that scene was priceless. Second, seeing Mace in action is always a real treat. And thirdly, Mother Talzin, our Mamba Jamba as you called her, was the mastermind behind the plot. Again, your reaction to that scene was great. As to Talzin’s fate, the show did seem to suggest that “Well, we won’t be seeing her again.” On the other hand, like Boba Fett said, “Fate sometimes stepped in to rescue the wretched. Not to mention the fact that those who wield the Dark Side, as well as Star Wars villains in general have a most stubborn refusal to expire, so, maybe she died, maybe she didn’t, maybe we wait and see what happens. This was a fun reaction to a most outrageous two-parter. Thanks, Jess.

Still can't believe when they cancelled Clone Wars after season 5, that this was one of the arcs picked for the then final season 6, which was the end of Clone Wars for near 7 years! Two of the least well liked prequel characters teaming up. Its an 'odd couple' (hilarious film btw) story that is fair enough and has its moments; but to choose this over making Son Of Dathomir, or even that soap opera tosh Dark Disciple; is a head scratcher.

I still think my biggest issue with these episodes is not who they focused on but it just feels like a missed opportunity. They could've done so much more with this dynamic.

I don’t mind the focus on Mace as I quite like him as a character, though I realize that’s potentially an unpopular opinion. The matter of choosing this two-parter over the two arcs you mentioned is a baffling choice, I do agree with you on that. Also, yeah, The Odd Couple is hilarious.

Thats a fair point. Jar-Jar will never be a beloved character for me, but he is perfectly fine in animation, which is the best guise for his clumsy goofiness. He actually is pretty decent in this little arc too, helping out Mace in his own inimitable way. I do think a better more taut story would have helped perhaps make this one of the better 'fun' filler episodes in the show, but alas with the way it pans out, and with Mace being the other end of this odd couple, who is my least favourite Jedi personally, even moreso than Anakin; it makes it one of those arcs thats more forgettable and not that rewatchable imo. And with it coming so late on in the series now, it does indeed feel a missed opportunity. Ah well its out the road now, onto bigger and better things going forward! :)

I had the same mentality with the droid arc in that I had a thought of “Ok. Now that that arc’s out of the way, now we can get on with some of the best arcs of the show, starting with my absolute favorite.” Thinking it over some more, I'd say this two-parter is second only to the droid arc in terms of least favorite arcs of the show, and along with the droid arc, really the only story arcs in the show that I have the most significant issues with. Luckily, as you say, bigger and better things going forward.

And of course, the inherent irony of a notoriously offensive black stereotype character calling a much more respectable black character his servant. Especially if you have Samuel L. Jackson's character in Django Unchained in mind.

Yeah, I rewatch Clone Wars (and Rebels even moreso) regularly either on my own, or through reactors like Sesska here; and I have to say, I never revisit that droid arc! I'm all for droid episodes and arcs, there are a few here and in Rebels that are a tonne of fun; but that one just seemed to go on and on. However, what followed that arc, was top tier Star Wars. Clone Wars is a very up and down series; it has moments and arcs of pure genius, and at other times you sit there wondering what the hell you are watching! :D

I LIVE for your reaction when they reveal that the Queen will only speak with Jar Jar. I had a similar reaction when I first watched this episode.
