Yeah, that’s a very 2003 look that you’re sporting. Takes me back to middle school. You still look nice. It’s not a bad look on you. I’d say that I liked this movie better than the first one. Drago Bludvist was a cool villain. I quite enjoyed Djimon Hounsou’s performance as Drago. Likewise, Cate Blanchett was lovely as Hiccup’s mom. Of course, Cate’s just lovely in basically everything that she’s in. Kit Harington as Eret was surprising, although that’s more so that it was surprising that he had varied dialogue rather than simply regurgitating the line “She is my queen” ad infinitum. As you observed, both father and son handled the revelations about the mom remarkably well, all things considered. When I’ve heard people talk about these movies in years past, nobody said anything about what happened to Hiccup’s dad. Or maybe they did, and I just don’t remember them discussing that plot point, which, if so, I wish I had remembered so I could have braced myself some, because that scene hurt. I found out later that here in the states, this movie got released in theaters during Father’s Day weekend, which is pretty messed up. Your reaction to that scene got me to cry all over again. I can’t be sure because I blacked out some during that scene when I first saw it, but I’m fairly positive that your reaction to that scene was the same as mine. I do remember that at one point, I had to pause a moment or two, and I said, “Well... THAT struck a nerve.” Thus far the romance subplot between Hiccup and Astrid is for me the weak link of these movies, but thankfully it’s not detracting much from the overall experience. Regarding the personal matters you discussed, I do hope that everything went well. Whenever you need to vent about things, I have no problem whatsoever with your venting, and I’m always willing to lend a supportive ear, and when I feel I can, lend helpful words of encouragement, support, or whatever the situation calls for. I’m happy to see that this movie lifted your spirits, and although it was sad at parts, I’m equally happy to see that the good cry that you said you needed was very helpful to you and that it proved to be cathartic. I’m liking these movies more than I would have thought, and I’m very much enjoying the experience of seeing them for the first time and sharing this experience with you. It is proving to be quite a lovely experience, Jess. Truly, thank you.
