This whole episode is really genius in how the people behind the game don’t even need to cheat, and are fully confident they can keep their word and let everyone go if enough vote for it, and before long the misery of their lives without any hope will drive most of them back.

Much like Arcane, I had never seen any of this until after I saw the notification that said you were reacting to it. Unlike Arcane, I had heard of this. My brother and sister in-law saw it and they said it was quite good. Friends of mine said the same thing. Practically everybody at work had seen it and went on at length about it. The last one I was somewhat bitter about because everybody at work had seen Squid Game but not Midnight Mass. Or if they had seen any of Midnight Mass, it was only two episodes before they said that it was “Too slow. Too boring. Nothing was happening.” and they stopped watching it. Going into this all I knew for sure was that it was a South Korean show, and that the basic premise was that at least part of the plot was a life-or-death competition show, very much in the vein of The Running Man and/or Rollerball. Two episodes in, and so far, the show’s pretty good. I’m not quite seeing why it got the intense hoopla that it did, though I suspect that the reasons will become more apparent as the series progresses. I will say that I do find player 1 (I didn’t catch a name) to be rather interesting. I’m beginning to understand why the internet took a shine to him. If nothing else, I’m happy to watch the show along with you.

Great reaction. If you're counting my vote is to continue. The thing I really like about this episode is that you really think they can't vote no because then there's no show right? But to have them all leave and then volunteer to go back in because their lives are so shit is genius. I actually tried to watch this a couple of times before I finally got hooked. That early scene in ep1 with the knife in his nose made me think it would be too gruesome for me. And if it wasn't so good from the character and plot point of view, it might be. But it's a really good show and it has a really interesting visual style.
