Minor spoilers: This is the last story Roger Delgado appears as the Master in, you see he was doing a film abroad in between this and the next season of Doctor who, and on his way to the set he got a taxi, unfortunately for what ever reason the Driver sent them both flying off a cliff tragically resulting in his death.

Mark McKeown

I'd argue this is more than a minor spoiler, especially because it means the surprise is gone once a new face pops up.

Megameme

Mark McKeown It's not like i'm saying who the next master is or when he reappears, i'm just saying this is the last time we'll see Roger. It's truly tragic the way he died.

Mark McKeown

Just seems more of a thing you'd say after the new actor appears rather than before.

Megameme

To be honest mate, i think the knowledge of one of the main cast dying is a 'little bit more important' than spoilers, but by all means continue to berate me for telling jess when the new master arrives.

Mark McKeown

But so important it has to be said before he's even offscreen? I guess so

Megameme

Yes it is more important. I can't decide whether you're being sarcastic or finally agreeing with me, but i think you need to realise there's more to being part of a fandom than just the show. You need to remember that at the end of the day, behind the scenes stuff is more real than Doctor who it's self, so what if Jess has been slightly spoiled, so what? i'm sure there are worse spoilers out there, but that's not the point, Roger Delgado was a real man, who cared and loved Doctor who, and although his onscreen presence was brutal and terrifying, his actual persona was very passive and kind, and if there's one thing that scared him the most it was stunts, which is what makes his way of death so sad. Roger Delgado dying by plummeting to his death of a cliff in a car must've petrified that poor, poor man who had such a fear of stunts, he probably screamed his lungs out all the way down. I feel the deepest sorrow and sympathy for Roger, who honestly deserved so much better. So like i said, sometimes spoilers are so much less important than the real life facts.

I have read through this thread & feel like this is something Jess should know about. Given she made a point of asking why nobody told her about Liz's sudden departure, I think this is something she should know about. A little late in coming though - it was already mentioned in the comments of her last classic Who reaction (on here not Youtube).

Thank you for another great reaction. I love this story but, yes I also agree it could have benefited from perhaps being a bit shorter. I also think the previous story might have benefited from being longer as they could have entered a few other 'zones' before learning they were in a miniscope. The bit at the end of this story was, I believe, supposed to have an extra scene which was cut for some reason, which would have made a little more sense of the scene in terms of where they all went - I'm sure someone can expand on this as it was many years ago I read about it. In terms of not being too sure of when the regeneration's will occur, I think it's a great plan to make a point of not knowing. While I won't spoil anything of course, I can tell you that none of the titles going forward give it away. Will probably make for a much more poignant moment. See you next time!

The capture/escape/recapture routine honestly doesn't bother me in this story because every time that cycle repeats- quite like in 'The War Games - (a story also known for having a lot of capture/escape/recapture) - we learned something new about the plot. So even though our main characters were in exactly the same predicament as they were before, the plot was actually progressing and the stakes and tension were growing bigger because the humans and draconians grew ever closer to declaring war on each other.

I agree with Tardis Glitch, this is the one time Jess should know about a character departing the show because of the tragic circumstances surrounding it. I think it would be worse if Jess kept on expecting Roger Delgado to turn up again after this considering what happened.

Matgo Styles

Of course it's far more important to recognise Roger's death. Can't believe it's even up for discussion really.
