Some people equate Trelane to Q in the Next Generation, just without Q's maturity. I know, it's hard to use the word mature when referencing Q but as silly as he is Q has a serious purpose behind his interference.

For me, the episode’s a lot of fun, but I do agree that it is quite disturbing when you really examine it. As I see has been mentioned, Trelane is often theorized to be a member of the Q Continuum. If he is, it’s quite interesting to compare him to John de Lancie’s Q. Whilst Q is of course not above chicanery, he does not engage in it without reason. Trelane, on the other hand, is very much like you said an overgrown child who thinks that his power entitles him to get away with anything he does. I liked how at the beginning your saying that we cannot lose Sulu, to which I said, “You’re damn right we cannot lose Sulu.” I noticed that this show is no longer on Netflix. It is on Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Paramount+ so I doubt it will hinder anything, but you stated before that you were primarily watching this on Netflix, so I thought I should let you know.
