As much as I was so depressed to lose such a lovely soul in The Walking Dead (there aren’t many left), it was such a beautiful moment. I think we could all hope we have the grace and kindness to go out the way that Eric did. Every last word he spoke was something Aaron needed to hear in order to go on. Not just in the battle but for the rest of his life. He told him he should keep fighting. It is what they both believed in. But he also made sure he left Aaron know he loved him. The fact that he said it in such a lighthearted way….it was like this is how he wanted to be remembered. He wanted to be remembered as a happy memory for Aaron. I think it took incredible strength to do that for someone you love.
Aaron certainly won’t be the same. I believe it’s a good thing that he’s heading to the Hilltop. I truly do hope we see a good heart to heart between him and Maggie. This show deals so heavily with loss of loved ones that it still surprises me how these deaths still break me apart inside. I had a feeling Eric wasn’t going to make it in this initial battle. Not just because he dies similarly in the comics but they way the show shot the whole gunfight scene. The focus was very much on Aaron and Eric….I knew it was time. But that didn’t make it any easier to watch.
If you haven’t, check out Ross’ Instagram post dedicated to Jordan. Even that made me tear up. They were such a beautiful couple and Eric will be missed.
