Opti_Frog

Yeah, i can't access part 3 either.

Dave Ford

Yup - part 3 seems to have a problem. 3Gb - wonder how long this will take to download...

Opti_Frog

That was great! So much fun! Too tired to write down my thoughts at the moment, but i'll be back.

I absolutely loved that! I cannot wait for your reaction to Half-Blood Prince. Not my favourite of the series but my favourite book by far!

Dave Ford

Oh that was great! Love that you loved that film - and, yes, Luna Lovegood is wonderful - there's a whole story about her casting, which you read about in the actresses Wikipedia page. This book in the series was, by a -long- way, the longest in the series, and lots was cut from the movie - especially a lot about the prophecies (and the teacher, Sybil who made them), and especially intriguing, a -lot- of stuff about Harry deliberately 'stealing' access to Snape's childhood memories in a different way to that shown in the films., and details about Snape's schooldays being bullied by James Potter and his gang.

Dave van der Kuyp

"Holy Shit!" That was my reaction to the magic fights as well. So damn good.

Dylan Cooper

What a great reaction, these videos are way worth the wait each month! I had a feeling you'd like this film, knowing that you enjoy larger groups instead of a couple main characters. Sirius was my favourite character when reading the books so I was absolutely heartbroken when he died, I think it's one of the few things that the film series could've actually done a bit better. I love that you take such joy in seeing the Weasley family, Neville and Luna (the blonde girl), they're such important characters and often overlooked! I can't believe we only have three films to go, I'll miss these reactions but my absolute favourite movies in the series are the last two so I'm looking forward to them more than anything. Very very excited for the sixth movie, it's another one that I have a feeling you'll enjoy. Thanks for a really great video :)

Karl Straba

eeeeee I'm pumped!

Monty Magpie

just found out the actor who played Cornelius Fudge died today. RIP Robert Hardy

George Alexander

Another amazing reaction Jess, so great to see you getting into it more, and all the characters ! I knew you would love that little glimpse into Snape's past, hes such a fascinating character isn't he ? Bellatrix is soooooo awesome , shouldnt like her for what she did to Neville's Parents and Sirius but still !! , cannot wait for the next 3 movies now, gonna be awesome , time has flown by ! dunno what im gonna do after youve finished them ! you should react to Fantastic Beasts after it hahaha x

Joits

so glad that you're in the later movies in the series... it just gets better and better. i can't wait for the reactions of the next three movies.

Finally got to sit down and see this! :D Surprisingly, this is one of those movies that while it removes A LOT from the book, it's the one movie I think I have the least complains about regarding that kind of stuff? As the resident "but in the BOOKS..!" purist that I am, I feel like that at least says something. I guess it is because while I feel those things missing, I think it manages to tell a complete story without those things, and fills in the gaps in other ways, while some of the other movies I feel assume that you've read the books and leaves non-book readers confused in some areas. And like, this is the longest of the books, so it's impressive they managed to make it the shortest of the movies. Anyway, this was an AMAZING reaction. There were so many "oh my god" and "holy shit!" moments from you, and that was great to see. Doesn't mean I don't have things to say though. ;) I absolutely adore your love for the Weasley family. The twins are absolutely fantastic, and Ginny is glorious, and as you said, a queen. Mr and Mrs Weasley are so wonderful again, and definitely take in Harry like their own child and it's so very precious. There was a lot more with the twins running away from Hogwarts in the book, but I think they managed to portray it so well here too - that fireworks scene is one of my favorites in the entire movie. There's a longer time in the book spent to not knowing if Mr Weasley was okay or not, but in the end it all turned out "alright" and I'm so happy. I remember reading it as a child and being afraid we were going to lose him there. Harry’s angst in this movie (and book) and his temper I feel, while it can often come off as unnecessary and weird, I somewhat understand. I mean, don't get me wrong, I've complained plenty about it in the past, and I didn't like a lot of this book as a child because of that. But he's 15 years old and he feels completely lost and that no one is really in his corner, especially with Dumbledore avoiding him and telling his friends not to write, etc. Add to that being a teenager in general, and all the shit he's been through... Yeah. Harry's temper does tend to get the best of him. BUT he is very angsty and Ron deserves a lot more appreciation for all of this. Despite maybe miscalculating that cutting himself off from Harry would make him safe, I love Dumbledore so much in this movie, and I felt that perhaps you started liking him a bit more too. I guess I shouldn't say 'despite' - it's interesting to see Dumbledore as human instead of this infallible wise old man. And also you know, an ABSOLUTE BOSS WHO TAKES NO SHIT. So many GREAT Dumbledore scenes in this movie. The hearing at the ministry, him telling off Umbridge, him escaping Hogwarts ("Dumbledore's got style!" - your face in that entire scene was wonderful), and of course that battle at the end. It's the first huge magic battle/duel we've seen, and it really delivers. It's visually stunning. Though I think my favorite part of it is when Dumbledore says "You shouldn't have come here tonight, Tom". The Harry Potter series puts so much emphasis on the power of a name, and how people are scared to hear the name Voldemort spoken, and how a name which isn't spoken only gives people more to fear. So I love that when Dumbledore is face to face with him, he refuses to use this name that Voldemort has picked for himself, to sound mysterious and dangerous - and instead he calls him Tom. His real name, and also a name he despised, the name of his muggle father (as revealed in The Chamber of Secrets). He refuses to let Voldemort be as intimidating as he wants to be, and I love that, even if it's just such a small detail. Also, while I feel sorry about you, I was kind of looking forward to the reaction to the snake, and it didn't disappoint. "FLAMING SNAKE!" indeed. Speaking of reactions I looked forward to - say hello to Umbridge, one of the most hated characters in all of Harry Potter. I LOVED how they did her in this movie, and I also absolutely LOATHE HER. SHE IS SO AWFUL. Her mannerism being so contrasted against everything pink and all the kittens and just. Ugh. I feel like "YOU PSYCHO” was expressing it brilliantly. Also, Harry sassing her at the end there, with "I must not tell lies" is so great. I love it. I don't remember if it's still there in the books, but those words do stay on Harry's hand as a scar, which is quite disturbing. He has a few of those by now. I love the Dumbledore's Army stuff. While I think it's safe to say that Harry is somewhat uncomfortable with it all - and not the best motivational speaker - he's honest, and I think they appreciate that. And it's just such a lovely break from all the doom and gloom. It's kids, rising up, trying to do something about the horrible way they're treated. Especially the team at the end. Speaking of that team - Neville is so utterly wonderful in this movie, and I just want to hug him. But his character development is a beauty to behold. That little boy who was brave enough to stand up to his only friends in movie one has grown so much, and he tries his best. There's such a sense of victory when he finally manages to get that spell right, and I think he needed to be confronted with Bellatrix there at the end to deal with some of those feelings and go all out. There's a scene in the book which while I get that it wasn't here, I miss it. It's Harry with the Weasleys and Hermione going to visit Arthur Weasley at the hospital - and they run into Neville, who's there with his grandmother to visit his parents. As was hinted in this movie and the last, they weren't killed, but rather had their minds broken through torture. That scene has stuck with me for a very long time, of Harry witnessing Neville talking to his parents, and it's absolutely heartbreaking. I think you can imagine. So, speaking of the rest of the team, and a much more joyful addition to our cast than Umbridge - you've now met Luna Lovegood, one of my favorite characters. I just adore her. They barely scratch the surface here, but you can clearly see that there's more going on. People steal her stuff, call her Loony Lovegood, and while I think she's lonely in her own way because of that, she's so very kind. She doesn't let that ruin what an utterly amazing person she is. She's different, but she's fine with that, and it's just so wonderful that she finally finds friends who'll allow her to be who she is. Glad you liked her. I have to say, I laughed a lot at your outrage that we saw Cho and Harry kiss instead of Ron and Hermione. And every outrage you had whenever Ron and Hermione were not, in fact, kissing. Your investment in those two is so great to watch. Another thing I was really looking forward to in this was your reaction to the brief glimpse into Snape's background we got here. It's much longer in the book (and more disturbing if anything. It's very painful, that entire scene. There's a reason the chapter is called "Snape's Worst Memory" but they don't really elaborate in the movie. If you were ever interested in just checking out brief stuff from the books, that's one I'd recommend). All those comments he dropped about Harry's dad and about Sirius starting to make sense. And I mean, while I love the "Nice one, James!" that Sirius has in that final battle (I'm getting to that when I'm emotionally ready), in the context of this scene... Well. I think Sirius probably chose to ignore a lot of the bad stuff that James got up to (and that he was in on himself), and idolized him, especially after his death, but also in life. I have no doubt James was a wonderful friend though, and as Sirius said, he owed him and his family a great deal after letting him stay with them after he ran away from home. It's just so interesting to see where these two men (Sirius and Snape) who both obviously came from troubled backgrounds, have ended up, and how they both obviously project James onto Harry. They both say that he's so like his father, while referring to completely different things, and I wonder if they really see Harry for who he really is. But that's what happens to people who go through horrible things a lot of the time. They get stuck in the past, for good and bad, and have a difficult time separating from that. But yes, back to Snape instead of me analyzing deeper meanings everywhere (I get carried away very easily). Love that scene so much, and I'm glad you finally got to it, even though it probably gave you just a taste of all the answers you want about Snape. At least now you know SOME more. (Also, Harry's heartbreak when he says "dad?" and realizes that's his father and what he's doing always hurts me. He's always been told what a hero James Potter was - and he was - but I think it shows how easily we put people on a pedestal.) Speaking of something lighter, I'm so glad Schnugglepuss has stuck around and now I refer to him as that in my head constantly and I'm just waiting for the day that I slip up and say that instead of Voldemort in front of friends who have no idea what's going on. Never mind, looking at my notes I took while watching (Because I do that) - we're going back to Snape. I don't really remember how clear they make in the movie, but when Harry through code tells Snape that Voldemort has Sirius - it IS Snape who goes to warn the order. Him saying "No idea" is to Umbridge, to fool her, but the reader is left unknowing that it was him until the very end, unknowing whether he really understood what Harry meant or not. But I think it's an interesting scene, because it's Harry, even though he despises Snape, putting that aside because this is his only chance to get a message out. I enjoy the ministry scenes with our Dream Team a lot. There's... a lot of weird stuff going on in the book there. It was a while since I read them, but I remember there being like, an aquarium of floating killer brains. It was... very weird. More "magical and out there" I guess, but I really like the brutality and somberness of the film version. And so, Sirius. I don't actually remember if I cried or not when I read this. I think I was really shocked, I didn't really understand what had happened. But it's so heartbreaking to see in the movie (and Lupin holding Harry always gets me, because Lupin just lost the last one of his friends from school - of James, Sirius and Peter and himself, it's only him left - but he knows he needs to be there for Harry then). But I have to say, I adore Sirius. He has his flaws, but I love him to bits. He's reckless, and he loves that Harry is too. He might not be the best mentor, and he encourages Harry's more dangerous tendencies that other adults would rather he didn't. Because he sees his own past in Harry, and his own dead best friend. This man has been in Azkaban since he was 21 (even if Gary Oldman is quite a lot older than 35 here). He's hardly had time to process any sort of grief. He's messed up, but his heart is in the right place, and he cares about Harry so much. He also has one of my favorite quotes here, that one about "the world isn't split in good people and death eaters" and how everyone has light and dark in them. I feel like that's such an integral part of the message of Harry Potter, and something a lot of people need to hear, that everything isn't black and white (the Harry Potter fandom certainly needs to hear that more often *cough*). There's quite a lot more to the prophecy in the book, but I won't really get into that, because it doesn't really matter to the movies going forward, since they chose not to include it. I love that scene with Dumbledore and Harry at the end anyway, and I kind of like that the prophecy kind of remains a mystery. Final thing, I'm kind of sad we didn't get more of Tonks (the witch who can change her hair color and other physical attributes at will), but there were so many new characters in this movie, I understand that they couldn't put focus on EVERYTHING. But I'm glad you pointed out how cool her power is. I'm glad you really enjoyed this one! It's definitely a darker tone to the others, and there's this constant feel over impending doom. I think you're going to like the next few movies a lot, and I'm looking forward to seeing you react to them. :)

Christ, I think I might have outdone myself this time... I need to stop.

Dylan Cooper

I love reading your comments! They tend to outline everything going on in my mind when watching these reactions, but I can only usually produce a tiny little paragraph haha.

No No Don't stop! I love reading what you think and it's actually very helpful for me because I never (sorry!) read the books and I love the extra little tidbits I get!

Opti_Frog

Toni, i've never read the books either, but i have listened to the audio books many times. I very much recommend it, since you can listen while doing other stuff. Another great reaction. Thank you. Rewatching the movies alongside your reaction turns out to be a lot more fun than I would have imagined.
