Yes but Turlough continues to be excellently irritated!

Imperial Mort

Lots of ideas but just doesn't work with what they had to work with resulting in a boring story.

Dave Sanders

The troubled production history of this story is infamous. Margaret Thatcher called an early general election in 1983, so BBC studio resources had to be reallocated for news coverage, and Warriors Of The Deep was rushed into production long before it was ready. Nobody liked the Myrka design, the paint wasn't even properly dry when it had to go before the cameras, and the operators said the fumes inside were like sniffing glue. Being able to turn the lights down like the writer wanted, so the Myrka would be a large, hulking shape kept in the shadows would have helped a lot, but technical management flatly refused due to BBC directives, so the whole story is flatly and drastically overlit. And when poor old Pennant Roberts, the director threw his hands up at it all, JN-T, ever the accountant, was going to put all the money spent on the big green sea cow on screen come hell or high water. No wonder the gun battles look so utterly static and lackluster; Pennant had just given up, and who can blame him. Which makes the last line of the script that much more ironic.

Season 21 - an ambitious, but troubled production period. Some interesting ideas, outstripped by the available resources.

A season full of highs, lows, and 'acquired tastes'. All in a great big Venn diagram.

Oh, here's a question about Warriors On The Cheap that's only just come to mind (and have never actually heard *anyone* ask, come to that): if the base's perimeter defenses are neutralised, the Myrka breaks through airlock 1 and Turlough demands the bulkhead there to be opened, and meanwhile the Sea Devils are cutting through from airlock 5, then er... what's stopping the sea from flooding in? In fact since the Sea Devils are Samurai fish people, why don't they plan to blow the base doors open, drown everyone inside, and effortlessly take control of the base and its functions THAT way? The computer's not *that* important since Maddox wrecks a lot of it, all they need are the missiles, and the plot is pretty adamant that the Silurians can jury-rig a means of launching those themselves as long as they have the Commander's hand, living or otherwise.

And you can see all the places the money does and doesn't get allocated to.
