Oh yes, Enlightenment is a great story, one of my favourites of Doctor 5. As you say, it has a strange atmosphere and Tegan looking at a photo of her late aunt is moving giving a nice emotional touch.

This story is one of my favorites. It is some of Janet Fielding’s best acting, and she is already one of my favorite companions. The whole cast really delivers too Interestingly, It is actually the first Doctor Who story to be written by and directed by a woman.

And it's a lot easier to see that now than it was forty years ago. Mariner is written and played as so overcome with desire he's not used to that he genuinely can't grasp what an absolute creeper he's being. He's at least trying to 'ask' Tegan, but talking down to her to do so with a sense of entitlement. And Tegan is having NONE of it. She's choosing the bear.

That the cabin is a jumble of memories from two different places and two different stages of Tegan's life is also a neat way of illustrating that the Eternals have only the crudest surface-level understanding of the living minds they use. They can identify *what* is subconsciously most significant in a person's memories, but not *why*. After her experiences with the Mara, and what happened to Aunt Vanessa and when, it wouldn't have shocked me at all if Tegan had felt mentally violated again.

Enlightenment! Definitely one of my favorite Five stories because all three of the leads get some great story beats to play with. Such an incredibly creative concept. And, honestly, I think your vibe on Mariner is right on the mark.
