We just got the news that Lower Decks is ending after its upcoming fifth season. On the one hand, I know everyone on the show was hoping to do more and had a lot of ideas that I certainly would like to see, but on the other any show these days reaching five seasons is a fucking miracle, and at least they're being given enough advance notice to be able to make this season into a proper ending. And they've made clear they're not giving up on getting all those plans into the franchise somehow.

Hadn’t heard about Lower Decks ending. Like you say, quite the fucking miracle anymore these days, a show making five seasons. Picard aside, I’m behind on the newer Star Trek shows, but word of mouth that’s come my way indicates it’s generally been favorably received, so I would look forward to seeing it whenever I get to it. Not now, as I’ll probably get to Ripley whilst Jess is on break. Certainly, good for Lower Decks that they can plan the proper finale, so it doesn’t join the original series and Enterprise in lacking the proper finale. Though even then, it wouldn’t have been as bad as Turnabout Intruder was.

It never ceases to amaze me how nuanced an actor Brent Spiner is. Even when Ira was playing it cool under the guise of Data, you could see in Spiner's eyes and slight mannerisms, the annoyance he had with those he deemed lesser than him; and as the facade unravels, the superciliousness reached a peak with Ira-Data getting in everyone's faces. There is some tremendous acting on this show, but Spiner might be the best of them. The actor who played Ira I always remember from an episode of Babylon 5 (my favourite all time series until Breaking Bad came along), where he owned each scene he was in. W. Morgan Sheppard was a poweful actor with great screen presence. Shame he was only in this episode a few minutes, even playing this egomaniacal genius.
