Bringing the dev updates back!
As you can see on the above images I've been working on the navigation a bit.
With the addition of the new rooms the menu bar at the top became a bit crowded and honestly, the old navigation code was a mess.
That's why the navigation is being rewritten from the ground up - this is important, more on this later in the post - and with the new code comes new visuals.
My intention here is that the game will feel a bit more immersive like this when you can click on the actual objects on the screen. Also let's face it, clicking on a navigation button on the top bar and then seeing a door, then clicking on the door is clunky as hell.
This has been designed so that you can reach any place in the house from the living room in 2 clicks. That's the same amount of clicks as before, but hopefully it's more aesthetic this way and less confusing.
This will be implemented in the 0.6 release.
The 0.6 release will bring a lot of small improvements as well. These are some of those improvements.
- You can start a new game, you can start at a later point in the story. This is useful if you've played the game before but want to start a new game and skip the parts you don't care much about.
- Once you have seen all the content in a release, a message will display that you have completed the release so you won't have to guess or check the changelog to be sure. This has been way overdue.
- Due to using a new file format, you can expect a slightly better image quality with a slightly smaller game size.
- Improved video/animation quality thanks to better encoding technique
- Scene replay / Extras gallery will be improved, it will be clear to see if you still have scenes to unlock or not.
There will be a few more minor things that will be overall usability better, and of course any bugs stemming from old code is now being dealt with, thanks to the navigation rebuilding.
Speaking of rebuilding the code.
With this, we'll make the first ever experimental Android build for a Lewdlab game.
After seeing the results and ironing out any possible bugs, this will be a regular build from now on. And yes, that means there will come an official Android build of Dreams of Desire as well.
I don't want to share too much about the story direction just yet - I will leave that to the newer dev updates - but I can tell you that I will be introducing 2 new female characters, and with that the main cast will be complete. There will be more new characters later, but for now, I'll have all the ones I need to transition to Phase 2 in the story.
