Make sense of that! (Patreon)

Tigra may not have the most convoluted origin of a comic book character, but she probably has the land speed record for getting tied in knots. She went from genetically-altered widow searching for revenge, to cat person in just a couple years. I guess it didn't matter. She had the best character design of all the Marvel cat people and a character can go a long time like that.

So elephant in the post. Why no embedded image? I've been heads down hoping it would all go away but piracy has been a problem. A former Patreon brought it to my attention that a lot of stuff was being posted publicly and while I was not thrilled by this revelation, I decided to focus on the work and improving as an artist. Maybe it would all work out.

Now that I'm coming closer to finishing some long term projects its really started to grate at me. Likewise, in my experience piracy hasn't grown this audience. Of those that have reached out to me, the tone was more of "if you don't clean this up why should I pay?"

Now I'm not expecting to cure piracy with this extra step. However it seems there are a number of Patreon scrapers that automate stealing artwork. I understand there may be some trading going on from person-to-person on Discord or wherever. I'm not too thrilled about that, but that's leagues better than posting stuff on some public Russian website. I'm sure the thief can get around this simple protection, but they'll have to put in a wee bit of effort and not rely on their scrapers. If I put in 2~8 hours to draw one of these, they can afford ten minutes to steal it.

Ultimately I'll need to move content off Patreon and back onto my website, like what Growgetter does. That's not a cure-all but gives a better balance between security and ease of access. That also means spending time I could be drawing or animating doing web development.

Finally I know this changes the contract that's been in place with this Patreon before and that some of you (beyond the thief) won't like. I'm sorry. You're doing nothing wrong and have been a great support to me and the work here. I want to make this as easy as possible to access. Feel free to sound off in the comments.
