Variant #1

Kevin Smith's take on He-Man held my interest so I can't think of it as bad. Still the dialog wasn't great and the characters made some odd choices. Normally I'd give these things a pass since "its a cartoon for kids", but Masters of the Universe is a direct continuation of the original show. The kids who watched that original show in the 80s are in their 40s and 50s now. So if not for them then who is the real audience? Marrying a slightly more mature tone to the consequence-free vibe of the source winds up being awkward, but there's worse things on Netflix and the animation is largely pretty great. 3/5.

I watched a few of the old episodes, they're all on Youtube as it turns out, and the original show survives better than I imagined. It was never the deepest cartoon, but as short punchy fantasy sci-fi it gets the job done.
