Slerm Grubs steal the identities (also memories) of their victims through their tongues. :o

Once a Grub has gathered enough human DNA, they are able to use the persons memory and body like some kind of shapeshifter. They also got the ability to form their original bodies and can remember everything from before their TF again.

Slerm Grubs usually stay obedient to their hive-queen, but are not willingless. They got a strong connection of freindship to their other sisters, to prevent them from starting personal vendettas against the one that catched them originally.

Grubs that have gathered a lot of human DNA can become powerful shapeshifters tho, which sometimes even loose this typical obedience to their original hive and queen to become true individuals.
