Even though these kind of pinups seem to be simple to paint, they are definitely not. To try and get it to look elegant, natural and sensual is a challenge always, because they're always different in some way. I could of course use photographic references as the web is full of them, but I like it much more when it comes from imagination only. Lighting, anatomy and personality just from knowing how it would have to be and trying to get there. It's not the quickest way but much more rewarding for me. I like to place them in situations where the pose is logical so that there is a story to think about. I can't really understand pictures of women leaning on and facing a blank wall, sticking their behind out and being sexy. Why would they? Or pinups in the fields with high heels on, that you know will make walking impossible. If I do those (sometimes I do, but rarely) it's usually for a cartoon and not so much a pinup.

I like these 'studio' settings because they're familiar to me, they suggest a shoot starting or ending and the mood is always great. There's a huge variety of believable images one can make in these sets. For real or in paint.
