If you want Zelda in particular, could have Tetra get the Zelda garb, only to find out that the last time Zelda was a princess, she was a baby. Thus the poofy undies. Alternatively, Veran from the Oracle series turning Link and Zelda into babies, as that was a thing she could do to Link in one of her fights with him.
