i get where you're coming from if ur passionate enough to keep fighting but Idk for me it would come to a point where if I'm still nowhere I want to be (a trainee somewhere else, pursuing another dream) idk I would feel like okay I've been trying for so long and still no progress let me just move on. cause at the end of the day u can be super passionate but you know everyone can't get fame just because they want it or work hard towards it. and age def plays a role too, shoot just off the few survival shows ive seen, they always talk about how anyone in their 20s and older is considered "too old" to become apart of a group atleast which will always blow my mind cause like...dude how tf is being in my 20..shoot even 30s too old to pursue my dream. Especially for use Americans like huh. I've seen such talented people be cut from being trainees because of them being 20,21,22. like the way Korean entertainment does things is just sad.

Yup. I wish there were more groups like eg. ATEEZ where everyone debuting was already 18 and older. Like. In what universe is that old tf?! First actual “late debuters” that come to my mind are Jinho (PENTAGON, debuted at 23) and Yoo Hweseung (N.Flying, debuted at 23). Jinho had already “given up” on his dream of becoming a singer after the SM group he was going to debut in fell through and was working as a vocal coach. That’s where he ended up getting casted. (Imagine being a trainee and then your vocal teacher gets casted to your company lol) Hweseung had already been to the military so I think that’s one thing that made it easier for him to debut as a later age as well. That is one of the reasons there aren’t more idols in their twenties debuting I think. There is no guarantee your group will do well and especially for smaller groups, members going to the military can have a huge impact on the groups promotion and sales. But still 23 is so damn young. And yet it’s considered old for a debut age tf?!

This conversation makes me think of when Jinho was enlisting and on RtK they mention, "Please support him when he comes back as a mature idol" and I felt offended lol he's quite a bit younger than me. He's still young! It's how they act like BtoB is such a mature, older group, yet when I found out they were all younger than me I was shocked because they made it seems like all the guys were in their 30s and I thought they were around their mid-thirties (which IS still young).

isaac.

in regard to other behind the scenes content/history there's a cool YouTube Originals series called Kpop Evolution which towards the later episodes has pre-debut STAYC towards the end of their training period and behind the scenes on that.

Totally agree! I feel bad stanning all these young groups because I feel so old 😅 but I definitely think it also has to do with their military service and if they put out boy groups younger because of that than the girl groups have to match. That’s just my theory because on Chinese idol producer etc there were a lot of guys in their 20s
