strawberry jam

FINALLY ...I was really hoping you react to this season.. thank uuu

johnnyxtsunami

yes! been waiting for this! to answer some questions, the first round is always accapella i believe just so they can hear lyrics and some style, i think giriboy just likes "unique" rappers lol, and the d.ark scandal was when he was 13 i believe he had sexual relations with someone who was 20 she complained and ya know public opinion. also for the first round they don't show every single rapper since it takes too much time, so a bunch make it through that we don't see until the next round with the beats, also alot of the time for the first round they will put some weird rappers as entertainment i suppose sometimes they get in, most of the time they dont lol

Smtm is so fun. I love the drama and watching rappers hype up bad rappers lol

anthonytoo

it was his scandal that the girl was older than him? that seems like it should be the other way around no? but hmmmm okay lol thanks for filling me in! some of the weird rappers are quite confusing LOL

one reason why people have sort of said “what ? another season ??” is because mnet has turned smtm into this huge overdramatized, only for the views kind of thing over the years. i’ve watched from season 2 and i would say that smtm really did change from showcasing more underground type rap/hiphop to the wider public. to mnet realizing that the “crazy (weird) rappers” and (usually edited) “drama” is something they can capitalize and make a lot of money on. (just like every other mnet show tbh) but it comes with pros and cons. in the end smtm is a huge reason why rap/hiphop is so big in korea now. and it genuinely has given a lot of rappers over the years the platform they needed. as well as a large number of contestants gets signed after - like ahn byeongwoong, chillin homie, sikk, woodie gochild, big naughty, punchnello, loco, etc. (jay snatched quite a few up lol) anyways excited to see how this season goes and to see how you feel about it all.

Most of these Rappers probably legit have NO idea Who stray Kids are. Don't forget. Most People in Korea aren't that into Kpop in general. If you aren't apart of the extremely popular ones like EXO/BTS or in an older Group like Super Junior then most People won't know you. Kpop is only a tiny fraction of Korean Music and not the most Popular.

to answer some questions: 1- the "teams" are "producers teams" they are basically here to help contestants produce the best songs by giving them the best beats, features and advices. They feature with them at some point too. So basically once a lot of people get eliminated through different missions (including a rap cypher as you saw in the previews) the remaining ones will be able to choose the producers they want to be associated with, this is a strategic choices depending on each contestant/producer styles and goals (it's more complex than that tbh but let's keep it simple for now). But until then they are mostly 'judges', after that they will be judged by the public along with their team so they won't have much power anymore. 2- zion-t was there as a producer not a contestant but producers tend to perform too that's why they showed his performances on the show. The only judge this season who was there as a contestant in the past (and won) is Bewhy (and Swings was first a contestant, then and until now he was a well respected producer/judge/rapper, but guess he came back as a contestant this time around since the people called him has-been: btw i don't like how the show is quickly becoming swings drama i hope he gets either cut or that they stop focusing some much on him) 3- they weren't lying about stray kids. First because other than koreans who actively listen to kpop (which sadly mostly consists of high-schoolers and younger) the general public barely knows idols unless they are hella successful within the country which def isn't the case of stray kids yet, despite the reconicition they may have within the industry, the country still doesn't know them. And they are a pretty young group too. Rn the most trendy idols are from girl groups (oh my girl, bp, hwasa etc..) and there's bts too obv but not many bg are talked about this days (the last very trendy bg was wanna one) + rappers and the whole khh industry have so much 'beef' with idol rappers that really most of them don't know shit about them (and they reallly don't care) except the og ones when they were younger (aka: bigbang, snsd etc.. depending on how old they are) and maybe the trendy ones. Also in korea kpop is very gentrified and since hiphop is a very male dominated industry the most known groups would usually be gg (in korea men tend to like gg and women bg) so yeah that guy saying gd was pretty predictable. (here the only known rappers with current idol rappers connections are dynamic duo (they worked many times with exo chanyeol) and giriboy (since he produced songs for monsta x and pentagon) wooseok is here so they might interract. There might be others but idk about them) Also a lot of them tend to remember and respect bobby from iKON since he won smtm3 and was the only idol to ever do so.

I know you didn't agree with most of the producers' picks but let me tell you that Chillin Homie is actually really good! I've followed him for so long and I can guarantee you that his performance in this ep didn't give justice to his skills. I hope he gets it better next round because I know he can

4- in case you wonder why there's some annoyance with english lyrics this season: english is a foreign language and not all koreans understand it, including the very ones using it in all their bars just because it "flows nicely". A lot of times people who use english in their bars like that are just bad writers who otherwise wouldn't be able to write anything good in korean, and since everyone speaks it they would right away be able to tell if it's good or bad. (The translations mostly don't do them justice btw) Whereas when they mix english in, it kinda 'hide their flaws' as dynamic duo said, and it let's you focus on the tone and the flow more than the lyrics. But rap is still ryhtm and poetry at the end of the day, and this is a korean show not an american one, so yeah lyrics in korean are to be excpected to be considered a good korean rapper in a korean competition, at least for the producers. Also most of their english lyrics tend to sound cringe as hell except for the few ones who actually know what they're even writing lol; Also I noticed some rappers left you perplex either beacuse of their flow or lyrics, in mushvenom case he has avery addicting tone but most importantly his lyrics sound hella fun in korean esp because of his satoori accent and that's what is sad with relying on translations is that most of the time it's just litteral/contextual translation and it loses a lot of its cultural/rythmical charm so sometimes you really need to pay attention to the way they form their words and not just the basic translation and flow to better understand why korean people like it, other times I agree it's just bad and i really don't know why they find it 'fresh'. Oh and as you noticed, they do soo much of those weird sounds (don't ask me why tho, they find it cool i guess, but it's overdone at this point I wish they stopped smh) 5-the d.ark scandal was ridiculous tbh he should have been the one considered a victim since he was only what? 15? 13? he was basically accused of rape by his 20 YO ex (wtf) but then she bactracked, they met up and apologized or whatever but he still got hella hate (grooming isn't really a thing talked about in korea from what I noticed) Well.... that's it! I tried my best to answer as much as I could since it's your first time watching smtm and even if it's a new season, most of them have storylines/candidates that continue to appear/get mentioned trough seasons. There's still some of the "iconic" smtm rappers (nb: iconic, as they marked everyone's mind not necessarly because they were the best) that are yet to appear (i'm so curious to see killagramz it's been a while)

i just finished the episode now cause was late in my country yesterday but... 1. ik that some rappers that Giriboy and Code choose but they know what they are doing... like last season GRBoy choose takuwa and he gone to the finals (he is my friend tho lol) i should check out his performances by yourself. 2. about Swings, he used to be Indigo Music, Just Music Wedaplugg Reacords CEO... amd dropped from his position... but he still a CEO of a gyn and a pizzeria. Also Cox Billy shirt is a shirt from Swings gyn... and he is acting like a child cause swings found out last season who is behind the mask (J'Kyun) and also didn't passed him... just because of that!! NVM... trust me.. the next episode will be WILD!!! i can't be a h1ghr tier but I'll send u the next episode haha thank u for the this one

Them not knowing skz wasn’t a shocker at all, they r a younger generation . Based on videos on YouTube I’ve seen talking to Koreans about Kpop the main one people always know r the older generation groups (Big Bang, exo, bts) Koreans barley know any younger generation groups 😂 and I heard Kpop is considered kid music out in Korea, it’s not the same as it is here internationally m. But how they think it’s cool for swings to come as a contestant when he’s been a producer but when an idol shows up it’s different?🤨 like what. And you took me out with the first rapper from giriboy, u said oh hell no he’s not cool. Haha but the dude head bobbing took me out. and since its been some time since u watched the ep, is there anyone who sticks out to you. anyone who u can remember since watch this ep? mine is the guy with the curly long hair (wonstein) D.ark (the kid with the unfortunate scandal) and swings but only because of the drama and dramatic editing lol

Samara Gooch

You might be better off watching a previous season as in my experience they aren’t always consistent with subbing of current seasons due to various reasons. I don’t understand why Swings is participating ... I’ve been watching this show since season 3 but I think it’s starting to lose its shine....

vega

I'm so happy that you're finally reating to smtm :) I'm still not sure about this season, the first episode didn't seemed really promising for me but maybe it will be better after

milky

Lol it’s so silly of some of them to try and act like they don’t know Stray Kids when they’re not only under one of the biggest companies in Korea but their MV literally has more views than the entire population of South Korea 😂😂

Sham Sham

same. the only reason i started watching was because i heard bobby was on the show. but i stopped watching after bewhy' in season 5. the show just fell of for me after his season. but you know now since changbin in the season my skz heart wont let me ignore this season. lol. i am enjoying it so far tho.

milky

I feel like to some extent those people exaggerate a bit. I always thought this too based off of those videos until I went and lived in Korea for a while. What your saying mainly only applies to people who are “out of touch” with social media and pop culture in general and even then it’s hard to escape Kpop in Korea. Like how people in the West have a stigma against “mainstream pop artists” but still they know to some extent who they are or they’ve heard the name “Ariana Grande” before. it’s the same in Korea it’s hard not to know them unless they are underrated groups from lesser known companies which Stray Kids is not. Kpop songs that hit high on the charts songs play everywhere. It plays in restaurants, cafes, in shopping districts, in convenient stores, I wasn’t even interested in that many idols at the time and I went to the store and ended up with cookies with Kang Daniel’s face on them, I went to a dessert shop there’s Astro’s face everywhere, I went to get chicken and the sign outside said “Wanna Cold One” for Wanna One. Exo, Got7, Red Velvet, Twice the list goes on and on and there are standees of them on the so many street corners and endorsement posters in every cosmetic window😂. There’s no way these people have not at least heard the name Stray Kids with how interested they are in the music industry

vega

Maybe I'm wrong but I'm almost sure they don't know. Groups of their age and style are not big in Korea. I was at a big festival last summer in seoul where they performed with other groups and it was silent for them. And it's a rap competition for most ofthem idols are almost seen like enemis. :)

mssmercedes

This would be my first time watching SMTM as well and really the first KHH show I'm watching other than HSR episode 1 that we did before. The thing that I'm realizing is much more than a Idol competition show I feel super cringy when somebody doesn't do well with the rapping LOL I get a lot more secondhand embarrassment than if someone messed up singing or dancing. I'm not familiar with everyone yet there were a lot of new names and faces so I'll take a couple episodes to kind of pick someone who stands out to me but I did like mushvenom I think the difference is if you're going to be kind of a weird rapper you still have to have the flow, like underneath all of his other vocalizations I could hear that his flow still seems solid.

Angie

Once again, never watched this but I love Wooseok from Pentagon and Changbin of Stray Kids :) they're both my favorite rappers in kpop aside from yoongi and bobby (from ikon). I've only see parts of the show when Bobby and B.I. were on it in season 3 :)

Phani

In my opinion season 6 was the best from a viewer’s standpoint. The producers’ teams were really fun (dynamic duo, tiger jk & bizzy, Zico & dean, Jay &dok2) and the performances were good plus I’ve liked rhythm power and it was nice they got recognized

hey! I would consider upgrading to the $10 tier - but I want to know it's something you'll actually upload..

anthonytoo

Hello, feel free to wait it out. Upgrade when/if you're comfortable. I checked this out cause my boy Taifu suggested it. I'll keep up with it as much as the other shows allow me to. If ya wanna wait a few weeks till some more episodes come out to see how much I've done - or peep the lens clips every now and then I'll post whenever I upload something new.

Anna Grigoryan

Heyyy I just wanna say that I love your reactions and I was wondering whether you’ll continue the show. Its translated till episode 6 rn and it honestly does get betterrr

anthonytoo

Me, myself had no problem with the show! Others were saying that they were unsure of how they felt about this year so I didn't know whether to continue. I also have to finish RTK first which there is one episode left! I'll make a post about the next survival show slot probably next week :)
