To make the videos compatible to hopefully all VR video players, these were encoded with h.264 and resized to make a side by side 180° 3D version.

This worked fine for the i-phone. As for what video players to chose from I tried a few, and stuck with the program called Mobile VR Station. I like it because it has tons of video formats it can play, as well as other features such as the ability to set camera tilt and field of view angles on the fly as you watch vids. It works great.
